I don't know if this is old news or not, but I've just heard from a friend Revell are to release a snap kit of the Imperial Star Destroyer.
Price is around £40 - $80.

Too bad it's a snap kit, but if it's anything like the RSD it will be a nice kit.

I've never seen one of their snap kits. Are they any good? Same quality as the normal kits, just no glue?

I just picked up an ARC-170 snap kit, and was fairly impressed. With a bit of work, she's actually quite stunning, with a nice wingspan. Fine Scale Modeler recently reveiwed the Arc and the X-wing. Both were pretty positive!

Any links to where US customers might be able to buy one? I assume this is the Imperial SD not the Republic EpIII SD which has been out for a while.

As soon as I find out more I'll post here. Yes, it's the Imperial SD, that's all I know I'm afraid.

If its as good as the Republic SD they put out its a must have for sure...

I've seen the Republic version in the hobby store and have thought about getting it. I was under the impression it wasn't that great... Is it really that good?

I bought the RSD when it was first released by Revell Germany. I was suprised at the level of detail and how well everything fit together. Like most stor bought kits, it could always use some upgrading, but even if you don't, it would make a great looking ship.

I love the kit . . .it's realy a fun build. I hope they keep going on this vein . . .

Yes its a very good kit. Its very deteiled for a kit in this scale - not that it can't be inproved ;) but it is a very nice build straight out of the box - and with a nice paintjob - very impressive...

I have high hopes for this kit. Anything would be better than the MPC/ERTL pile of crap that's out there now. I'm fighting one of these DUD kits right now and it's frustrating more than satisfying.

Didn't we see an example of this model at Celebration Japan? There was a thread that had models on display and one was a small Imperial SD.

There were two Sd picturesd there - one was a modified ERTL I think the other (the cooler one) was a Argonauts kit... I base this by the picture that also has a FM y-wing in the picture - and the relatives sizes point to a Sd that is smaller the the ERTL one.

However in general I agree - if Revell is allowed to do it right it i.e. like they did the republic Sd it will be great. If they force them to do it liek they did the Falcon it wont be much of an improvement.

I was told yesteday the rep asked a friend of mine if he wanted to order any kits in.
It's *supposed* to be issued next month.
That's all I know, I'm afraid. :unsure

Well it's not in their current line-up of kits, but the rep did say it was going to happen.
When though, is a good question.
I'll ask my friend to see if the rep knows anything more...

Thanks so much for looking into this for us. I know I'm not the only one with high hopes of a more accurate SD model...even if it is a snap-fit. Just the painting and weathering alone could take weeks. That's a good thing for the long winters here.
