Return of XCom!!! "Enemy Unknown"

Wow -that looks promising. X-Com: Enemy Unknown has to be my favourite computer game ever. Those Disc aliens were real pains in the early stages and nothing like having half your squad gradually mind-controlled by an Ethereal alien at a pivotal point. But oh the pleasure of the fruits of research and when the tide starts to turn! Me and my younger brother still get a wheeze out of playing Julian Gollop's old Chaos game which I see someone has made a flash version of:

Chaos - The Battle of Wizards

I'm thinking in december of preordering it. I'm a huge fan of the series even though after Terror From The Deep it went a bit off. I even loved the playstation version of it.

Interestingly there's another one coming out that is a FPS. I'm tempted to look into that one as well.

The FPS one has been in development a long time now. It's been long enough I honestly thought they had given up on it.

I loved the first two X-Com games. They got a little weird and or bad after that though. They had one that was a space combat sim of sorts. "Interceptor" if I remember right. Then one that was a top down shooter that was really rough.

The first two were essentially the same game with slightly different graphics -- but both were awesome. The third one was kinda weird, but not awful. I wasn't a huge fan of the story shift to extra-dimensional stuff, though.

Didn't play the otehrs, but I bought the X-Com bundle from Steam a while back so I have 'em if I ever get a hankering to play.

I loved the first one. The opening sequence was so much like the Gerry Anderson series "UFO" I fell in love immediately. All my bases were named SHADO UK, SHADO US, etc. And it was just a kick ass game! The second, was just a rehash of the first, but fun still. What got me about it was that you had to research technology to allow you to swim up while in water. That technology tree was a little dumb. I didn't like the third at all, and didn't play anyof the others. I'm really looking forward to the turn based one and am sorely tempted to try the FPS one as well.

I think that it will either be cancelled or it will come out for console only. PC gamers most likely screamed "WTF?!?!" when that game was first shown. Maybe if it's extremely good people will play it, but they want something like the originals.

i'd check it out, but I won't consider it a true "X-Com" game. It'd just be Bioshock vs. Aliens.

XCOM

You can see the 2 games coming out. Enemy unknown i'm getting for sure, the other one i'll get used for 10.00 later on. Even after buying the original trilogy on Steam the 3rd game doesn't run right on any computer i own. I couldn't even get it to run right on my old Windows ME laptop.

On youtube google xcom last stand e3 2012 trailer

Really? The third game just...ran for me on Steam. I double click, it runs. Simple as that. It's not a fantastic game, but it's playable.

I recall ALMOST beating the game. Like, getting to the final mission, and then getting frustrated that my team kept getting killed.

It's easier to get the trailer on the xcom site than youtube as youtube makes you sign in while the site you enter your name. Yeah i have never had luck with that last xcom game. It looks like all the original aliens and their terror sidekicks are back with some revamping. The floating discs also seem to have combat forms now.
They also seem to have made some new enemies for this game from what i've been seeing in various clips. I never knew this game was that popular but looks like there was a giant fan base. It also sounds like they've worked bits and pieces of the original soundtrack into the game too.
I thought i was excited for the new tranformers game until i saw this lol.Looks the PC gamers get the best special edition out of all of them as they get the soldier pack, an art book, soundtrack, poster, patch, and other goodies. those of us with consoles just get the soldier pack.

Preordered it anyhow. i'll get the extras from the PC one on ebay.

Nothing I've seen from the upcoming X-Com FPS game has grabbed my interest, but I'm sure I'll check it out once it eventually releases. Enemy Unknown on the otherhand, I've been looking forward to. Played the demo last week, and immediately preordered it afterwards. Picked it up yesterday, and it's just great. So many nods and such to the original games, it truly feels like a sequel. Anyone who's an X-Com fan should pick it up.

Yeah enemy unknown is the only one that has my interest. I might get the other one after it's cheap used. I'm going to wait for the Metal Gear Rising to be used to since Hideo is only a producer on it.

I played XCom Enemy Unknown a while last night but I'm going to start over on the 'normal' setting. On the harder, but not nightmare setting, I was getting Chrysallid on the first terror mission and I still didn't have energy weapons. Sheesh! I LOVE it so far, but do think they made some odd choices. In this version, you have to choose between sites under attack a lot, and you CAN'T go to the other site after you are done with the first. It's an either/or, and I liked how originally if you had enough troops you could go to multiple sites.

So is the terrain destructible? I used to love using my rocket launchers in the original to blow open a building to make a better way in then the death traps the aliens had in mind from using the front door.

I haven't been trying to blow up a lot of terrain, but yeah, trees and rocks have blown up. Cars if hit enough with plasma weapons start burning and then explode a round later or so. Some UFO walls blown up, some small structures blown up.
