Resin - How do I convert weight to volume?

I've found in the UK that there is no standardised measurement for resin - some stores sell by weight, some by volume.

Anyone know if their is a standard coversion equation for polyeurethane resin?

what brand are you getting. It usually says on the bottles whether it is to be mixed by volume or weight.

Cheers

Well I dunno, dude, I wanna pick some up for our little 'vaction', but you always use smooth-on (by vol) whereas it looks like I'm gonna be getting Tirantis (by weight). I just wanna get some idea how much to bring along :)

resin is a bit heavier than water, so 2 kg would be just under 2 liters. make sure you get a resin with a potlife of at least 10 minutes. Resins that kick fast (5 min) are not too suitable for larger casts as you don't have enough time to fill the mold.

can't find smooth-on?

The stuff I use is around 20 minutes. The only place that sells smooth-on liquid plastic is the 4-D modelshop, by special order only :(

You may be able to get it directly from Bentley Chemicals, but I want to pick some up on Saturday when I'm in London for the Christie's Bond viewing.

Correction: 4D do this one: Resin opaque white Smooth-cast 300 1 pint for £21.

Any good?

Yaeh, well, the pint kit gets you only one or 2 bigger casts. I usually get the gallon kits. I probably will be ordering some stuff from the netherlands, better product range and even with shipping most likely cheaper.

hey, looks like my dutch supplier now also distributes in the EU including the UK. They offer great products and services at decent prices and they are very helpfull.

That looks good. I'll probably pick up a couple of pints from 4D to play with in Wales, then maybe look into getting some bulk from your suppliers.

if you go to their original website www.aff-materialen.com the product range is even larger and they seem to ship international from there as well.

Maybe we can do a joined order before you come over. I will most likely order some stuff from them next week.

cheers,
