So I've finally taken the plunge into mold making/resin casting. Been molding some old 1/6 head sculpts as a test in RTV silicone and came out pretty good, but the polyester resin I use comes out a bit too clear, brittle and glossy.

Would you guys recommend polyurethane resin over polyester resin?

Just what I needed! :)

Got one more question: will regular acrylic paints and krylon spray paint adhere to the urethane resin? Thanks!

-Joe

Yep . . .but be sure to give it a bath in warm water and detergent and let it air dry to get all the mold release off, cause that will affect your paint job.

yes! make sure the mold release is ALL gone, or you'll be sorry (in case you couldnt tell, I learned this the hard way)!

Got it! Just picked up a trail size. I'll definately keep the mold release tip in mind. :confused

For the polyester resin, I don't use any mold release and it pops out fine. What would happen if I didn't for the poly urethane?

your mold will dry out sooner if you don't use moldrelease.

Personally i use talcum powder as it 'draws' the resin into those tiny areas due to it's capulary properties.

Ah, no wonder. Well, I bought some "mold release" spray. Maybe I'll try the talcom powder route. Thanks for all the wise info, bros.
