Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (Post-release)

Re: Resident Evil Final Chapter trailer

I predict the film will introduce one to three new younger characters to fight along side with Alice and it will end with either her retirement or death. The new characters will be the foundation of a new series and "hopefully" a new franchise. The film will also attempt to create the platform for a "cinematic universe." The new franchise will be called something like, "Resident Awakening" or "Resident Redemption."
Am I wrong?

The RE movies do amazingly well in Japan even if US RE fans aren't fond of them. Personally I prefer the CGI anime ones that line up with the games but I'm not going to say no to any movie with Milla in it lol.

Personally I'm hoping for a hard core reboot that actually understands and respects the BioHazard/Resident Evil franchise in general. Now before you drop the hammer on me, yes. I know the game series has been one giant roller coaster ride after another in both tone and quality, there is still a lot of material that can still translate well in the film medium. The Resident Evil movies honestly don't feel like they did any work at understanding the franchise at all because it's only interested in doing one thing. Making Milla Jovovich's Alice look awesome. For those who have never played any of the games, Alice is a character created specifically for the movies. Normally when writers create new characters in an adaptation, it's usually meant to add a layer of story telling that the other medium could not accomplish. This is not the case with Alice since so much attention is devoted to her that you wonder why they even bothered including the actual game characters outside of brand recognition. Every character from the game series is completely overshadowed by her you'd think that this whole series was made as a 'love letter' to Milla Jovovich from her husband Paul W. Anderson.

And I'd also like to give a shout out to Capcom for not including Alice into any of their Resident Evil games. Not only would they have to credit Paul W. Anderson for her character's creation, he would no doubt insist that her character be a walking "GOD MODE". What else can you expect from the guy who put ALIENS into modern day Earth in a temple underneath Antartica.

Re: Resident Evil Final Chapter trailer

From what im hearing, they are putting a lid on this franchise movie wise. I got hooked on Video Games at age 37. Never played them outside of an arcade. Then My wife buys me a PS2 for Christmas as a fun present. I buy RE4 out of the bargain bin at Game Stop for $10. 2 weeks later, ive been playing almost non stop, up until unholy hours immersed into a whole new world. Now I finally got why kids dont take out the garbage or do home work. For $10 bucks, I, a middle class professional 'non gamer', was sucked into this crap....and loving every minute. I still go back with all my super weapons (Tommy Gun, rocket Launcher etc) and blow away the zombies. It was a great story/game to beat for a rookie, even on kiddie mode.

I liked (loved) the games first and foremost and accepted the movies as rentals on the sly. I liked seeing leon in the one on the big boat and the other shout outs to the video games. The first movie was really good, the others are just fun.

Jeyl, I kinda liked the aliens on ice movie. But then again....Im not looking for Oscar winning Sci-Fi. Just a fun movie with some good special EFX.

Now bring on the Uncharted movie!

I don't know where I've discussed this before, but I'll reiterate my thoughts on the matter.

There are two Resident Evil games that I rank amongst the best of the series. The best game overall is Resident Evil 4, the one you just played. It's got the best gameplay, an extremely non-repetative setting (Seriously, this game is long and the mechanics don't change yet it always feels fresh!), and the return of a character I had a mad crush on (Ada!!!). It also proved that the Resident Evil franchise can do more than just be about zombies. I will always hail it as one of the best games ever made, and it was made for the Nintendo Game Cube! And speaking of Zombies, THERE ARE NO ZOMBIES IN RE4!

If you liked playing RE4, you should consider getting a pre-owned Wii or Wii U and get the Wii edition of Resident Evil 4. Even after the release of the PC port that featured a mediocre HD retexture, the Wii Edition is still hailed by many to be the definitive version of the game. As was noted at the time when the PS2 version was compared to the Game Cube, it featured weaker graphics, textures and longer loading times. What it did provide was an added Ada Wong storyline "Separate Ways" and an added costume for Leon and Ashley. Since the Wii console was a more powerful system than both the Game Cube and the PS2, Capcom not only ported over all the PS2 add-ons, but also updated the add-on's graphics and textures to the level that the Game Cube version featured. And the Motion Controls with the Wiimote is a big game changer, allowing you to freely aim wherever you want with quick precision. You can pull off a lot of neat tricks that were very hard to do with analogue sticks.

But if you're looking for the best Resident Evil game that I feel perfectly encapsulates the best that the franchise has to offer, give Resident Evil 2 a spin. Even though this game features Leon and Ada, the two games couldn't be more different. It's got a terrific atmosphere, wonderful music, great creature designs and a replay mode that actually switches the story around. Seriously, the Leon/Claire A and B games are so unique that I have yet to see any other game made since copy this method of story telling. The only thing that stops it from being an incredible game like RE4 are the controls and graphics. It may feel and look a bit clunky, but it's totally playable. Capcom announced that they will be remaking it so fingers crossed that they do something really special with it.

And while I respect your thoughts on wanting something to sit back and relax to, I still think they should try a Resident Evil movie that does the games justice. You'll still have these six action-packed movies to fall back on, but I want to see someone really do something with the property. And believe me when I say that my idea of what I think a perfect Resident Evil movie would be like wouldn't be an oscar winner either.

Gonna write somthing more coherant when in sober, But thanks for the heads up. My fuzzy thoughts say that with the recent Sony GB fail ......I dont hold much faith in them to keep a good franchise afloat.

Re: Resident Evil Final Chapter trailer

If they brought back Allie Larter and Michelle Rodriguez I'd be all over this.

Re: Resident Evil Final Chapter trailer

Personally I'd rather just see more CGI RE movies made to fit in with the game world, the last two were pretty good but I'm getting tired of Leon and Claire lol. They should make something during the Raccoon City crisis that fits in with the other games since there were other survivors of the incident. The George Romero script wasn't that good but at least it probably woulda been shot in PA as this was before he got this fixation with using Canada as the Pittsburgh area in his movies.

Re: Resident Evil Final Chapter trailer

"The end of my story."

This story should have ended long ago. I think they've pretty much missed the mark every time compared to the tone of the games. It should have started out like the original game with Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield and Barry, Wesker etc. and then that whole Tyrant thing at the end would have been sweet.

The first film was okay and a decent start to the series. Not dead on to the game, but the tone was there. The other films just completely jumped ship and I stopped watching after the 3rd one in theaters.

Resident Evil was my favorite Survival Horror game franchise and they had so much great source material they could have worked from in the films.

Re: Resident Evil Final Chapter trailer

Apparently the folks at Capcom love the franchise or they'd have pulled permission a few movies again, i know when they reworked RE for the gamecube they altered the dogs to look more like the ones in the films.

There is a new installment in the CGI series coming. I like the CGI ones as well, and am not a fan of the real life film series. I've never been able to sit through an entire one. As a fan of the games just seeing cardboard cutouts of the characters painfully shoehorned into the films is too cringey for me. The films are essentially a Milla Jovovich vanity project. However I do love the hilarious Phelan Porteous reviews of the series and am excited for a new review he'll definitely do for this one.

Just finished watching this turd. "Oh God" was ringing through my head the entire movie. Between the 1-second camera cuts, the Umbrella Thundercat tanks, the ridiculous monsters, the cannon fodder characters,... do I even need to go on?

Honestly I'm not sure why I put myself through the pain of watching these awful movies.

I'm amazed how popular the live action movies are in Japan, they eat the things up over there while we go nuts for the CGI ones tied to the games.
