Resident Evil: Degeneration, Any one see it.. Worth picking up

It's better than the last two live action RE flicks but thats not saying much. I didn't feel it was quite on par with Square-Enix FF:AC in terms of CG but was still very well done. It has a fair amount of action but seemed to reach it's climax a bit too early. I actually felt it borrowed some elements from the first RE movie which was a good thing.

I always liked Claire Redfield's character and it was nice to see her again but she took a back seat to Leon and fell into the damsel in distress role a bit too often. Leon is pretty much RE:4 Leon with a different jacket. His face looks decidedly unlike the game and it seemed although Capcom tried to make him look more eastern to appeal to the Japanese audience. Paul Mercier reprises his role as Leon's voice and there were some other notable voice actors (Steve Blum anyone?).

I had planned on picking it up but don't really feel like paying $20 for it. Circuit City did have it for $17.99 but even at that price I would have to see what extras were included.

Here's a rule of thumb I use for videogames and anime...

If a videogame is based on a TV show or movie, chances are 3 out of 4 times that it sucks.

ON THE OTHER HAND, if it's anime based on a videogames, 9 times out of 10 it sucks!

Capcom in particular does not have a good track record with game-to-film translations. Although the Street Fighter II animated feature and SF Alpha OVAs look nice, the stories are garbage. Darkstalkers (Japanese OVA series not the awful TV show) is slightly better.

Japanese CGI films are worse than American CGI in general. If it's possible to make realistically rendered human beings look even more lifeless and marionette-like than they do in American projects, the Japanese will find a way!

I just wasn't impressed by any of the CG Final Fantasy films. Good action sequences, yeah, but action does not make a total film. In the meantime, you really notice (because you're bored by the general story) how creepy the people look and how eerily inhuman the animation is... It's either too smooth, a bit jerky in places, but definitely doesn't feel like anything crafted by people. That's why I generally prefer hand-drawn animation.

This is not to say that all Japanese films are bad... That's not my contention in the face of films directed by Kurosawa, Miyazaki, Satoshi Kon, and other excellent Japanese film masters. It's just by and large the theatrical Japanese animated film market isn't much to write home about. Their animated TV series are a different story!

P.S. --- D'Oh! Goes without saying this topic probably should have been posted in the Off-Topic Discussions. Not a moderator, just saying... I've made the same mistake once or twice, too!

Haven't seen it but always looking for more zombie action. It's funny, but my Mom would tell me that Night of the Living Dead scared her and I didn't like it much. But after playing the first RE and then watching the special edition VHS of the original DAWN, I was hooked.

I watched it about a month ago, I enjoyed it much more than any of the live action films, good animation and I fell in love with Claire Redfield, then wept into a blanket when I remembered she was just a bunch of pixels :lol Go see it I say :thumbsup

It's a rental at best. Def. Better than the live movies (but as stated already, that's not saying much).

The movie felt like they wanted to do so much more (typical anime mind). And at the end of the movie, they try to add a fourth plot line to the story. So expect a sequel or at least a tie-in to the Resident Evil 5 game

I liked it!

I must say the the final monster's face looked AMAZING!

The way his "saggy cheeks" moved reminded me of Ray Harryhausen stop-motion, even though it was animated.

Everything QFT...

In some way I enjoyed it, mostly for curiosity and for the "CGI intro" style of it (you know, to see a RE movie that looks somewhat like the game), but that's it...:sleep

Another postive feature of this movie is the fact that ADA WONG doesn't make an appearance to try and steal any of Leon's thunder.

Seriously though if your a RE game fan and felt let down by the live action milla romps then you at least owe it to yourself to give it a rent. Then if you like it you can bide your time till it drops in price. Or if you got Christmas cash burning a hole in your pocket you can get it for $18 at Circuit City. Maybe it will help whet your appetite till RE:5 is released in March.

Just picked this up tonight at Best Buy on Blue Ray. Fantastic, beautiful film, I absolutely love realistic CGI! Ties in well with the original game.

Damn, every place near me is sold out of the blu ray version, gonna have to travel a hour just to get the damn thing, hope its worth it!

Saw Dead Space Downfall, wasn't bad. Wasn't great, wasn't really that good either.

Tried sitting through the Degeneration flick, and in all honesty was bored to tears.

Realistic? :confused

Ok it wasn't cartoony, but neither realistic... The style was very "animesque"... But was indeed "in style" with the games, wich was a plus for me, I'll take another movie like this over the live-action ones everytime!:cool

I thought it was just OK. It reminded me of sitting around watching someone else play a video game, especially the "boss fight".
