Replica Hoth(ish) goggles WIP

The foam I used I found at the local Joann Fabrics. It is the usual soft polyurethane foam, 4mm thick, with a woven fabric support layer bonded to each side.

Beyond that I'm not sure how to 'designate' it for a web search. Hopefully the pics may help you if you show them to the staff at a good fabric store...

I came across this thread while searching for Han's Hoth goggles. I was excited to find another brand to search for, but there trooper goggles are not the same as Han's goggles. Sort of like the differences in Han's hat, compared to the trooper's hat. (Found a vendor for accurate hats, if anyone is interested).

Does anyone know what Han's goggles are/were? Were they modified, to open the lower frame? I've not seen any goggle like these before...

They were a piece taken off a face shield for weilding or something like that. I have seen a picture of it somewhere. I do not remember if it was on RPF or Rebel Legion, that it was posted.

Thanks. I signed up over there although it doesn’t seem very active.

I’ll search around and see what I can find.

Awesome! Thank you!

These are going to be quite elusive... besides the Hoth connection, vintage motocross guys want them too.

And apparently they let a lot of dust in, so the few that were made went in the bin when a better one was found.

I wish someone would do a run of these goggles, I’m sure there’d be plenty of interest. Great job by the way!

Yeah - I actually have a proper vintage Swanns now and need to figure out how to non-destructively disassemble it and mold and cast the various bits. A bit too much work for what's on my plate right now, but I do hope to do this someday. You're right - I think a lot of folks would want copies...

How did you make the laser cut pieces with the round vent holes? Thanks!

3DImpact until you get some time to make molds of your vintage Swanns, these look like pretty accurate replicas to me: natedogg2263

Have you thought of having them 3D scanned?

There’s .stl files of the greeblies etc available online, but I haven’t seen anything for the actual frame. I found a vintage pair of ski goggles (not Swann’s unfortunately) from the 70’s/80’s on eBay that I’m waiting on to be delivered, and they have the right shape, and pretty close to the same vent holes etc. I’m going to 3D print the greeblies for the sponge and clips for the band, and see how everything comes out.
