I've asked him for a copy of the COA. Let's see what he send me .... if anything.

Whatever the case, it sure has withstood the test of time :lol

I don't know, but his (short) history shows him selling other screen used items.

    Too funny! It's a 10 oz can!!

Over the last year, Barbasol changed the cans from 11 to 10 oz. While the can is still the same size, the graphic changed in that portion of the can's art. In other words...any period can would be marked "11oz"

I would've given the guy the benefit of the doubt thinking he was dupped if he wasn't dug in so hard about the certificates and liberating it from a warehouse himself.

    Have fun fellas!

I asked the same thing when it was listed for $10k (has since been listed for $5k and now $3k) and actually got a scan of it:

    Hi,

Thanks for your interest! Here is a scan of the COA:
    http://i45.tinypic.com/2q34z7p.jpg
The prop designers who signed it are
    Ian Stevenson and Michael Trcic.

Here are their IMDb pages to prove they
    worked on Jurassic
    Park:
    http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0871543/
    http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0828953/

Ther COA says 'Certificate of Authenticity'...what more do you want?

Yep, that, and the tooth-fairy. Love the detailed description too.

The guy is either a scammer himself, or he got conned by one.

He clearly states "HE" got it from the prop warehouse. Doesn't look good does it.

Again, the 10oz can does him in more than anything. Nobody else would know it or even care. The art on the can simply changed from a 1 to a 0...everything else is identical. The company slipped it in so cleanly that I didn't even notice it at first.

Very authoritative looking isn't it! Props were still pretty much considered scrap in 93, anyway. Nobody even cared enough to print a certificate. If one did get printed up, they ended up looking like a field-trip permission slip some kid folded a dozen times and lost in his back pocket.

Well, in my area there's also an 8 oz version which is of course too small. When I noticed the 10 oz, I panicked thinking they changed the size of the cans which would've meant we were all screwed!

10 and 11 are indeed the same size, but the graphic did go from a 1 to a 0

I would expect to see all the cans go to 8 oz down the road making it impossible to get a proper replica anymore.

All the more reason to get one while ya can!

Did I just turn this into a plug? Yes. Yes I did. :cool

The seller is claiming she just grabbed an image off the internet as her camera is broken (name is Rida, I'm assuming female...)
If you go to YourProps, you will find the images she's using...
But she confirmed it has a 'bolt on the bottom' when I made a comment about a certain replica not having a bolt. Thing is, the screen-used one doesn't have a bolt on the bottom either... :)

Now, since she's admitting to stealing an image off the internet, you just can't go by the picture, so I'd base your decision on the COA alone...

    :cool

And, for what it's worth, she's sold a couple of Dino eggs using images from YP, and she's actually BOUGHT replica Raptor claws off eBay and re-sold them as screen-used using the same images from the replica auction...

I'm still waiting for the 'real pictures' she promised to use when she re-listed the can (3 listings ago...)

(Oh, and while the 10/11 oz thing was a recent change, www.barbasol.com didn't even exist when JP was made, and I think every can since the late 1990's has had this printed on it... And the shape of the can is different too... Now I have to try to find an original 1992 can to make an accurate replica. :love )

I also emailed her on eBay asking about why she's selling a replica, no response.

I'm just curious - how responsive are ebay with this stuff? Given the change in the can, would that be enough to have them pull it?

FYI. The original hero can I inspected did indeed have a bolt on the bottom. Just sayin' We beat that topic to death years ago.

The older Barbasol can safe retains the graphic without the web addy. The problem is you have to strip out the liner ring and clean that damned thing pretty good to get anything to fit. As for the size. The dimensions are identical.

Item reported as replica and informed eBay of other questionable items to.

I suggest others do as well because this person clearly knows what they're doing.

Oh man, we HAVE to nail this ******* then. Reported the listing to eBay as 'counterfeit or replica' and mentioned the screen used one would show 11 oz.

I reported it to ebay as well. I also send the seller message that at this point he definitely knew he was selling a replica and his story was BS. Im sure I won't hear anything good back from him but it made me feel better typing it out. :lol

    Good job all.
    Firstshowing updated their article.

UPDATE: The folks at Original Prop Blog have looked into this further (after all, they seem like the experts in situations as these), and it sounds like this auction is a replica and not an authentic screen-used prop as the auction indicates. They also point out where you can get such a replica for a much lower price. Head over to Original Prop Blog for the full rundown on this thing.

I think us rpf detectives already have it covered ;)

Jim arnold from reelarts didnt buy the egg. He is connected to the seller. The person had to return the egg to Jim arnold from reelarts to receive a refund back for the egg

Waaaaay too much to tell :lol

Do a search for reelart (his eBay handle) here, and also on COW.

His website is kingego.com or something IIRC.

I mentioned I sent him a message through ebay about how this is not screen used etc. and here is the reply I got early this morning...

"When I first listed the Cryocan, my camera was broken so I just used a picture of the replica.
But I got a new memory card for my camera and I just took a new picture but eBay isn't letting me change the picture on my listing.
Here is my photo of the screen-used Cryocan: http://i49.tinypic.com/14cd5jl.jpg

There were 6 Cryocan props made for the film. 7, if you count a real Cryocan with actual foam that was used in the scene where Nedry tries the can and sees the foam come out.

I have one of the 6 Cryocans that opens up with the vials in it which are included in this auction.
I work doing promotion for Amblin Entertainment so I was able to get ahold of one shortly after the movie finished filming.

Here is a scan of the COA: http://i45.tinypic.com/2q34z7p.jpg

It was originally listed at $10k, then $5k and now $3k....has it been reilsted again?
    I'll just re-report it.

Photo's or not, the seal ob the COA shows a seal that is IDENTICAL to the image posted online. They either took the seal from the COA and are hosting it or this seller used an online image for the seal.
