Replica Bond Omega Seamaster sources?

Fred, I just sent you a PM with great information about "replica watches".
And FYI if you pay above $200 for one of these watches, you have been ripped off. ;)

Just registered over there, thanks for the link :thumbsup

Now I've got one more thing to keep me occupied :lol

I already have a few friends who are watch nuts, so I know the warning signs. Thankfully, I really only need a fancy watch to wear to fancy occassions. I feel kinda funny wearing my Luminox when I'm wearing a suit.

I've been reading an article on how to detect a fake Rolex. After studying dozens of close-ups, the trustytime watches look to be almost indestinguishable from the real deal. Every trademark that the article said to look for is present on the replica. The only difference may be in the hologram sticker on the back. It looks like a slightly different design (and only noticeable if you know what to look for).

I think I'm going to pull the trigger on a black bezel submariner. They have $30 shipping, but $218 for an exact replica Rolex works for me. If it's as good as it looks on the website, it's going to drive my friend insane. He's a watch nut and has an original, genuine black bezel sub..

I got mine for $140.00 plus $20-$25 shipping.

Took a month. Looks great.

well, I just deicided to go ahead and order the rolex from trustytime. I'll keep everyone up to date on my purchase experience.

Sorry, but I just can't bring myself to wear a fake watch. It's like driving one of those wanna be kit cars... sure it might look real to the unknowing, but you and the people that can tell know it's a VW under it...:lol But I guess since I'm in the Jewelry/Watch Industry I might be bias... but I also have opened my fair share of knockoff watches and have seen the Mechanisms inside and the overall manufacture of the cases and bands, and let me just say :confused....:confused

I wear a Hamilton Ventura as my every day work watch, I've always liked the design and WAY before they used it in MIB. I get more comments on it than someone wearing a Rolex or Omega. And it's really NOT that bad of a price, considering what people here pay for large chunks of resin and plastic...

Oh, and yes watch companies DO go after people who make and sell knock offs! Rolex, Omega and TAG nabbed a multi-million dollar shipment a couple years ago in the LA port that came from China. And purchasing fakes only increases the suggested retail prices from the companies so they can spend money on lawyers to go after the bootleggers. So in the end, you guys can only blame yourselves for driving the prices higher!

While I certainly understand your position, Utinni, to me (and I'm only speaking for myself, here), a watch is nothing more than a functional piece. All I need a watch to do is to tell time.

I can't justify spending more than $250 on a watch - ever. I had a $30 Armitron that lasted me 15 years with one battery change after 10 years. If I didn't somehow lose it when I moved, I'd still be wearing it today. I got the luminox because I need something that can take a serious beating as my watches tend to get beaten up on the job.

I don't see how anyone can spend upwards of $5000 (and up to $125,000) on a watch that only tells time. I also don't see spending more than $30,000 on a car for the same reason. A Ford Focus gets you to the store the same as a Rolls Royce does.

And while I understand watch manufacturers going after the replica makers, maybe seeing people flock after the replicas will force them to rethink their overpricing. I'd rather buy a $300 genuine Rolex than a $100 replica, but first, find me a $300 genuine Rolex.

I don't understand why people would pay over $5 for a flash gun. :rolleyes

Everyone has a different opinion on this thing. I remember a day when I was much younger when I said the same thing about a timepiece. "Why would anyone spend that much?"

As I have grown older I have acquired a deeper appreciation for a good timepiece. I am bias a bit as I do sell them on a daily basis as well. To me, they are more than a functional piece. They are a functional piece of art. (Yes, I have used that line in training others and with customers. Sue me. :p )

The last one I picked up was a TAG over $2000 and it has been worn every day for the better part of a year. Is it worth that much? To me it is. Wether we are talking about over priced watches or over priced camera equipment used to make lightsabers it all comes down to the same concept. Do you enjoy it? Does it work for you? Does it make you happy? Could you afford it? Then you didn't pay too much for it.

Just my $.02

I don't see how anyone...
They're priced the way they are because they're not mass-produced. They're also engineered to higher tolerances than everyday watches. And, as Flagg just pointed out, they're condered art by some.

I can see your point of view but everyone likes different things. I wouldn't pay any more than $30,000 for a car (or 10¢ for a Star Trek prop for that matter) but I understand those who do - if that's their bag.

:)

Neither do I. My first was a 2 cell that I got for $4 at a flea market. My 3 cell I got at an antiques store for $10.80 (after tax). While technically over $5, it's not by much - not enough for me to be upset about in any case.

Now for a little OT rant :love

There have been a lot items, both on and off the boards, that I have passed on because the prices were just so ridiculous. Sometimes they are nice things to have, but when they're just sitting on your shelf, you start thinking "I paid how much for that?".

Like the latest rush on the Mal pistols from sidkits. Yeah, Firefly was a thoroughly enjoyable show and having a prop from it would be cool. But, it wasn't my all time favorite show in the world. And after 2 weeks, when the cool factor of the gun wears off, I'm left with a $329 paper weight that only a few people would recognize and even fewer would be impressed that I own one.

Over the last few years, I've become very aware of what I purchase because I notice I have a lot of things that were cool for a while, but now don't do anything but sit in boxes. When it came to star wars toys, I was a completist up through Ep. I. I had every figure and vehicle they put out. I have maybe 5 figures from EP. II, and that's it. Haven't bought a figure since. My parents attic is packed with figures from all diffrent toy lines that I purchased over the years.

Actually I think there are 300.00 dollar Rolex's.

Just none are the Speciality Chrono's such as the GMT'S, Submariners, etc.

One thing that has not been touched on is that the Rolex is not a watch but a Chronometer.

In addition as noted in another post they are manufactured very differently then the knock-offs.

Comparing a knock-off to a real Rolex is like comparing a beat up Ford Pinto to a Lamborghani, they are in way different leagues, but they basically do the same thing, one faster and in more style imo. ;)

There are few things that i comment on here but this one I can help my self:) I get the opprotunity to frequent Canal Street and Santee alley in L.A. The current going price for any replica watch is $50-75. Rolex, Jaeger Le Coutour, Omega, Breitling, Tag. You are a fool if you spend more than $75 for a replica watch. I cant stress this enough. A few years ago Rolex clamped down on the replica market........It worked for a month or so. You only have to ask, and someone will hand you a black plastic bag filled with whatever you want. In fact Rolexes are about 10 cheaper than a good Breitling. Replicas hit the dock with a 30 price and go to the street for $60. Then get sold in bulk to online dealers for $100-200 to sell to you for 300-400! Swiss movement? Give me break! They all have one of a few Chinese movements. They are accurate on the outside because its not hard to get a real one and have it scanned in autocad and then start milling! Slap in a generic $3.50 movement and you have an accurate watch. With the above said, there are deffinatly different grades to replica watches. But not to justify a $200 dollar price jump. The $400 Rolex on these sites is the exact watch on the street for $50.

Not everyone on the forum (myself included) has access to "the street". I don't want to go to downtown LA, and I live about an hour south. What is everyone else in the country supposed to do?? I'd say for an extra 150, you're getting a pretty good deal, seeing as how you don't have to venture down to the "under belly". :)

While I work in Manhattan, I'm nowhere near canal street. The only thing you can get by me is bootleg sunglasses and pocketbooks. Since I have no intention of getting a sex change just to get some bootleg swag, I'll suffer with having to go online.

Here's the thing, I'm not looking to start a replica watch empire. I just want a dress watch that looks good and can keep time. Since I don't play dress up everyday, I can't justify $5000 for something that tells time.

You can call it a watch or chronometer or whatever you want, as long as it tells the dang time :lol.

This is simply not true, several of my watches have swiss ETA 2826 & 2824 movements in them, all purchased from select online dealers. Depending on the dealer about $100-$200. All of the watches on Canal street are crap, in this you are correct. Some of the asian movements are OK, and some are junk, it is a buyer beware situation. This may change with ETA and the Swatchgroup limiting open sales, but for now there are great watches out there if you know where to look...:)

Well, got my Rolex Submariner. Less than a week from time of order to day of delivery. I ordered it Sunday morning and got it on Friday.

Anyway, on to the pics (ignore the fingerprint smudges on the glass ;) )

Is that a rust mark I'm seeing on the back of the bracelet on the right hand side in the last photo?
