Repairing scratches in patent leather?

I've seen people use Mop'n'Glo to get rid of scratches from sanding on pieces or resin or fiberglass armor. I was just wondering if anyone has ever used this on patent leather? I have a pair of doll shoes(actually for my Talky Tina doll) that are badly scratched and was hoping for some way to make them presentable.

I don't have any first hand experience with this, but reading your post reminded me of commercials I used to see on TV for Leather repair kits that were color matched for PVC, Patent and real leather. I Was at the hardware store buying epoxy glue and saw in the glue section at Ace Hardware leather repair kits right next to the glue, probably for fixing torn seats and the like. Maybe something like that and then a polish?

Good luck.

Oh shoot. Don't ask me how I managed to post this in the General Modelling forum. I meant to post in Costuming.

I'll look for something like that.

Try "spit-polishing" using tinned shoe polish.

But would that restore the shine as well?

Yes, if done properly with a soft lint free cloth.

There are several techniques. Look on youtube to find what suits you. Some work better than others. I prefer to use ice cold water, while others prefer to use warm/hot. Practice on a pair of shoes if you don't want to ruin your piece. When I was in the military, besides our boots, we used to polish our peak caps to restore the patent material if it ever got scratched.

Good Luck
