Hi all,

Just received a deactivated Remington M870 which im using in my pulse rifle build, it cocks and dry fires, but of course will not chamber a round as both the barrel and mag tube have been plugged receiver end, it looks as if they have also been pinned from underneath the receiver, just wanted some help/advice on how to strip it down, i know how to remove the trigger assembly (though i havent tried this as yet) by removing the two drift pins, my main problem though is how do i remove the wooden pump/fore grip ????

advice or links to how to do this would be a great help.

many thanks :thumbsup

You have to unscrew the knob at the end of the tube chamber. Then the grip slides forward off the tube.

And if it dry fires (as in firing pin still works) I'm not sure it's considered "deactivated". You could slide a new barrel on there and go to town with it, yeah?

I think I'd of been more apt to remove the firing pin, plug that, plug the barrel, but leave enough room in the chamber to use some grenades in her.

But, I have no idea what the regs are in the UK, so, I'm talking out of my "bum" huh?

ive had the mag tube end cap screwed off, but what stops anything sliding forward is the part (arrowed) which is attatched to the barrel. i would imagin ill just have to cut both the mag tube and barrel (receiver side of the support) ????? its still going to leave plenty untill i cut it right down to the correct length.

With a working 870, you would pull the action open part way by sliding back the bolt (use lock release button), then unscrew the mag cap. At this point you would be able to remove the barrel assembly which would include that support bracket for the magazine tube. In deacts, they sometimes weld the barrel to the receiver making this problematic. Give it a try and let us know.

In the states, to make a real gun deactivated or blanked, it is sometimes a requirement to weld a barrel to a frame/receiver so this may be what they do in the UK as well.

yes thats what has been done, it looks as though they have drilled through the bottom of the receiver where the tube and barrel enter, pinned it through the tube and barrel, filed the pin flush with the receiver then touched over it with black paint.

i was going to drill the pin out but only as a very last resort.

plan now is to cut through both the tube and barrel (red line) which will get rid of the tube/barrel support, which will allow the fore-grip to slide straight off, should that work ??????

I'm not too sure about the PR build, haven't studdied it, but if you still need the barrel just cut off the ring that's attatched to the barrel. (That slides over the magazine tube). If you don't need the barrel you could cut it like you said. But try just cutting the ring off first maybe.

this cut is very ok, but you still have a problem then.

by sliding the pump section forward off the gun, it will still hold the complete bolt on it !

the bolt comes out including the pump slide assembly forward of the gun, and thats only possible when the barrel is removed.

and then you need a special-tool to remove the wooden pump grip from the metal sliding-armature.

hope you understand what i mean, because of my bad english :lol

You have to cut the barrel/ammo tube down to about 6" long (from front of receiver) anyway to fit in the spas cage.

I would just cut away the wooden pump grip (assuming you dont want it), this should ultimately reveal the u piece that the actuator arms are attached to.

I wouldn't bother trying to remove the barrel or ammo tube.

right, thats probably a better idea that trying to drill that bloody pin out, i dont know what its made of but its as hard as hell :confused

i didnt want to cut the tube or barrel down too far as yet, till ive got the cage ready to fit the shotgun, plus im still waiting on the aluminium front block for the cage.

come back resin, all is forgiven :lol

You never did fill us in on how this went, and how you did it...

Due to the fact they put a steel pin through both the mag tube and barrel, i couldn't remove the barrel (which would have made life easier)

so i cut through both the mag tube and the sleeve that the action bars are welded too so as i could get rid of the sleeve (un needed) this makes the mag tube slightly too short, so what i did was slide an aluminium tube (same dia as the inner dia as the mag tube) into the mag tube to extend it with the off cut.

mag tube and barrel are still too long as im waiting on the GL end block before cutting to the correct length.

cheers
