Limited Run Red TROS Version Floating Jedi Training Remote Limited Edition

Does that mean we all get bumped up since he is last on the list?
Yeppers, He was next out of those who have not already asked for a specific time frame. He declined the offer and asked to be moved to the bottom so everyone else moved up a slot.

So cool, I am really hoping to be 100, final edition. Not really into the kit options you talked about after 100.

Hey guys.
Quick Public Service announcement. I have recently started receiving many messages asking me the same few questions about these, so rather than continue answering them individually, I thought it best to post here for all to see, and also to hopefully dispel some incorrect information that's floating around out there. Also, If this turns into a bit of an FAQ, please feel free to ask me here and I'll add your questions and my answers to the list.

1. "Are you now selling these on ebay?"
-No. I'm only selling them here through this waiting list / project run. The only exception is for a couple of close friends who I've made one on the side for, or who came over to the house to hang out and build one themselves. If you see one on ebay and you want to know if it's one of mine, ask the seller to send a pic of the bottom of the base as well as the box. I sign and number each one and keep track of who I've sold them to. Only a couple have since sold theirs on to other people. So most likely if you see one pop up on ebay it's not mine. I also have a lot of pics on the first post for you to compare.

2. "Is yours full size / Is yours 6.25 inches?"
- I'm honestly not sure where the "6.25 inches" information came from but it's simply not accurate. The real prop is under 6" in diameter.
The Master Replicas training remote that a lot of people use to compare, has been proven to be slightly too large. The tank model pieces are mostly the correct size to the real vintage model parts, but there's too much spacing between pieces because the ball itself is too big. Having said that, The MR is just under 6" in diameter. That plus the fact that my parts match caliper measurements of the real (correct) vintage model parts, and match up in terms of sizing and spacing to the real prop using photo overlays, puts the real one at roughly 5 7/8" which is approximately the size of sphere (147mm) I get directly from the manufacturer I'm working with on these. I can only speculate about the size difference on the MR in that if they actually did measure the real prop, they obviously were not allowed to take it apart, so maybe they measured the diameter of it INCLUDING the styrene parts and greeblies, not the bare sphere itself, and used that measurement? who knows? But that would account for it being slightly too large. Regardless, if you try to line up pics of the real one with pics of the MR, matching on the size of the greeblies, which we can confirm are mostly correct, nothing lines up and the sphere is too big. And again, the MR sphere itself is LESS than 6". I have photographic proof from an unassembled prototype laying directly on top of a ruler. The MR is factually less than 6" and it's factually bigger than the real prop. How much bigger? I can't say for sure. Mine is made from the closest available option in terms of dimensions and photo overlays of mine to the real prop match much better than the MR so that's about as far as I can confirm. Mine is probably still a couple of millimeters smaller than the real one but this was never meant to be an exact film prop replica as much as an accurate looking floating collectible, otherwise I would have used a Plastruct sphere, real model parts, and it wouldn't float or light up.

Having said all of that. The real prop was filmed against a blue screen and then later superimposed onto the film scene without special regard to maintaining the proportions, which is why a lot of people say it looks bigger in real life than they remember seeing on film. So, in my mind there's a bit of wiggle room there for what full size is (full scale for the prop or full scale for what's seen on screen).

3. "Do the lights in the remote need batteries?"
-No. The LEDs inside the sphere are powered by magnetic induction from the base through a wound copper coil inside the ball. No batteries. The LEDs are rated for 50,000 hours, which is 10 hours a day for roughly 14 years. They should last a very long time. I did see one that was being sold on ebay that appeared to be a PLA 3D printed from the free thingiverse model that had individual lights glued behind each truck rim that you had to pull out and turn on one by one, then turn off one at a time. Mine are not like that. You touch the touch pad on the base and they just come on. Touch it three more times to cycle through the different modes (remote on, base on, both on, both off)

4. "Does the remote spin indefinitely by itself or do you have to keep spinning it?"
-Yes, absolutely they all spin. I have been working with the manufacturer directly on this for over a year to ensure every one of the remotes I build and send out will slowly and smoothly continue to spin by themselves nonstop. I have had ONE reported issue with a person who said theirs stopped spinning after a few weeks, but it turns out they simply had it sitting in a shelf that had metal brackets that were affecting the magnet, which we figured out after just a bit of troubleshooting. Once he moved it somewhere else, it began spinning again just fine. I will say that some of them like to spin only one direction. Some spin clockwise, some counterclockwise, and some will spin both ways, but usually one way better than the other. But I make sure before I even start building them that they ALL spin. The only thing that could cause it not to spin is if it was not balanced well. Part of my process is to routinely check each one to make sure they stay perfectly balanced the entire time I'm building them.

5. "Am I on my own after I buy it or do you continue to support your product?"
-Absolutely I support it. I spend 40 hours plus on each and every one and am extremely proud of them (if not a bit protective) so I always follow up with each customer upon delivery to make sure they're happy, that it arrived safely, that it floats properly and the lights work, and to see if they need anything else. I've had a few customers contact me saying they accidentally dropped it or had a power failure and didn't have a battery backup (which I HIGHLY recommend) and asked if they could send it back for repairs. Typically that kind of repair can be done by the customer with me simply sending them the appropriate replacement parts, which are already pre-painted and weathered to match. Just pop the old pieces off with a razor blade and glue on the replacements and it's good as new. In more severe cases or if the remote arrives damaged and cannot be easily repaired by the customer, I have them send it back to me so I can fix the issue to a point where it's good as new, or I replace the entire thing free of charge. Of course there is a limit to what I can do. I can't make you another one for free in 5 years if your cat knocks it off the shelf, shattering it so just use common sense and know that I will always do my best to take care of you.

I’m up next guys anyone have any pics of the jedi logo on the base I’m thinking of going with that one. Also what do you people think of the pencil or chrome pen finishes in the flesh and would they change their mind if they could go back in time

FINAL UPDATE SEPTEMBER 10, 2019:
Hey guys, I just want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to every single one of you on the list for sticking it out with me and waiting on this list for me to get to you. It has been a true honor to get to make these for you and I truly hope you enjoy them as much as I've enjoyed making them for you. I have loved getting to "nerd out" and talk shop with each of you one on one.

With that said, I'd like to officially announce that this Limited Edition run will stop at #100. I honestly thought I'd make 10, MAYBE 20 remotes. I never dreamed I'd built ONE HUNDRED of these things!

So! What does that mean for the rest of you who are still on the list?
Well it means a couple of things. If you end up on a number less than or equal to 100, then you'll get your shot just like normal. I'll contact you when your time comes, so be ready with payment. Just know that I will not leave your slot open for 2-3 weeks waiting for you to respond or for you to get the money together. I will give you 48 hours to respond and then I'm moving on to the next person so PLEASE SET UP YOUR NOTIFICATIONS if you don't check the board frequently. There are people at the end of the list who are very ready to get one, and there a few people ahead of them who have already been asked to move down or haven't actively responded in a long time. So I want to get these to the people who are actively participating, while still being fair and honoring "first come, first serve". If you're on the list and you see this, please chime in with a quick "I'm still in" so that I can get a feel for how I want to handle this last round.

What happens if you end up being 101 or greater?? Well you have a couple of options.

Option 1: I will STILL make you a finished one, but it sill not be signed or numbered as part of the Limited Edition and I won't go through as much to customize it exactly the way you want it. But everything else about it will be the same as my standard finished remote on this run. It also may not come as quickly, as I will most likely not continue doing them so fast as I move on to other projects and take a much needed break. But I will honor your spot on the list as long as you respond quickly when it's your turn, and it will be at the same listed price of $629 plus shipping.

Option 2: Now that I have opened a new run for the BUILDER'S KIT version, you will have the first opportunity to get one of those before I fully release them and I'll knock off a bit off the price to honor the fact that you have been waiting on this list for quite a while. In other words, being on the end of this list means you're automatically at the top of the KIT version list, if you want to take that option. The price of the KIT would be $350 shipped to the US (additional shipping outside the US) for you, instead of the normal $400. This offer is also extended to EVERYONE still on the L.E. list that may want to switch over, but it doesn't mean you can do both.
For more information on the BUILDER'S KIT version please click HERE.

Again, Thank you all so very much for your support in this project. It has been an amazing time and I will remember it fondly for the rest of my life.

Best,

Trent
