It's been a while since I have had a chance to post here but I have a project we are working on and I wanted to chronicle the process here.
Zen and I are going to be building a Red Sonja costume which is based off of the Side Show Collectibles Premium Format Red Sonja.
But what we plan to do with the build is document the process from beginning to end using theRPF's "Craft Your Fandom" model of "See It, Research It, Build It, Be It" which in itself should be fun. We will also be doing a YouTube series around this as well.
The first step of "Watch It", or "See it", we are going to call "Inspiration".
When you decide to build a costume or a prop, you are always inspired by something. Whether it be from a comic, video game, movie, TV Series, statue, artwork, etc... there is always that thing that draws you into it and inspires you to create... for me, this Red Sonja statue was that inspiration.
We look forward to a conversation about process and we hope that others will see this thread and chime in with their own experiences.

The next step and quite possibly the most important one is the "Research" phase.
In this phase, this is where we do all of the ground work. Figure out budgets, put together a story board (which is different photos of the costume/prop, along with notes on materials and items to make the costume), time lines, gather references, make an inventory sheet, research specific products and ways to do things, break down potential cost, etc...
In addition to making an inventory list, we use an app called "Cosplanner" which allows you to keep track of everything from money spent, to progress.
