This is a commission I had a little while back for professional cosplayer Ivy Doomkitty, she was going to Big Wow Comic Fest to model for Frank Cho's drawing panel.
very big axe
general mockup, I scaled down the axe a bit
another mockup
building out the form
turning the center of the axe on a lathe
finished center section
end result of turning wood.
assembly
bondo and blocking
finished blocking and high build primer
wet sanded and a good coat of mold release, time to start the matrix mold.
first half of matrix mold.
finished matrix mold
finished cold cast and leather wrappings.
here she is, I had to rush the assembly and literally was cutting the flashing in ivy's hotel room, by that time id been up for 6 days straight and she had been up for I think three or four, it was an interesting sleep deprived day filled with illusions and crazy sounds but the costume came together and the axe looked great.
heres a link to ivy's page if you guys are interested in her cosplay
