Red Dawn (2012)

...and written by the writer of the original Red Dawn.

Red Dawn was written by Kevin Reynolds or John Milius.

EDIT: Not true if you're talking about the original video game. The author was C.J. Kershner. All the changes from Chinese to Korean were done when C.J. Kershner was the writer.

Actually you're confusing this with the written "Novel" to Home Front which served as an addendum to the game. "THQ announced a tie-in novel, Homefront: The Voice of Freedom, written by John Milius and Raymond Benson, that follows a group of reporters making their way across America, exploring the early days of the occupation."

Well, at least the poster shows good trigger discipline.

Looks like the brunette found time for mascara during the invasion.

I'm a fan of the original that came out while I was in the Army and it had a cool musical score, but the new one doesn't look to bad from the trailer I'll give it a shot.

I have no problems with remakes normally and I really loved Red Dawn when it first came out in the theaters but I'm not too sure about this remake, from what I've seen so far it looks almost like a shot for shot, or at least scene for scene remake of the original and that's the kind of remake I can't stand. If you're going to remake a film, fine, but at least have the originality of making it your own and while making the occasional nod and homage to the original don't copy the original scene for scene.

LOL! I agree. If the free-world was left up to anyone 29 or younger now-a-days, we would all be screwed!!!

I take offense (only somewhat joking). The average age of a soldier serving in the armed services is straight out if high school. The officers come straight out if collage.

I have 18-26 year old airmen in my shop that do more than their share of "protecting the free world" - I am one of them and I'm just over 25.

Sure maybe the average 20 something wouldn't give a **** - but don't forget about the 2% that do it on a daily basis for real - lol

Us "29 and younger" crowd is what makes sure stuff like Red Dawn DOESN'T happen.

Rant ended :p

Here here man. I had a wife, house, and child at 25. Plenty responsible enough. :thumbsup

If you've got irresponsible kids it's more than likely it's your fault.

Hi,
Directed by Dan Bradley and written by Jeremy Passmore and Carl Ellsworth, Red Dawn is an American action movie, based on the 1984 film of the same name.

Thanks

Hm....now, I know I'm new to these boards, so my opinion won't carry much weight, but....I'm a little disheartened in the lack of faith the older generations (at least, represented here on the RPF) seem to have in the younger generations. I mean, I don't want this to devolve into some pointless debate, seeing as this thread is about a friggin' movie remake....but....I think the subject matter here begs some illumination.

As an 18 year old, no, I can't speak from personal experience as to the fear felt by those growing up during the Cold War. But as a History major at CSULB, and as a person who's most interested in the Cold War as a period in history, I can say that I can only imagine what I would have felt in regards to near paralyzing fear at the thought of a "Red Dawn" situation. In fact, I probably wouldn't be such a "leftie" (As someone above put it) as I am now if I hadn't grown up in a period of (relative) safety. Although....I will say that growing up in a post-9/11 world (having been 6 years old when the Twin Towers fell), I have a small taste of what that fear must have been like.

But...the point of this post is to say that I sincerely hope you older members here who did indeed grow up in the Cold War, and seemingly have little to no faith in my generation's ability or will to defend this country gain a little more faith in us...I can reassure you, my friend and I (actually after having seen this remake's trailer, and discussing this situation exactly) spent a good 2 or 3 hours discussing what we would do in a "Red Dawn" senario. Also, since I was 6, I have been racked with the fear of a coordinated terrorist strike (a fear that isn't just shared by the older generation of this country, I assure you), and have devoted many hours of my life contemplating a "contingency plan" of sorts, if (I hate even saying it) such a thing were to come to be. So from personal experience, not just with myself, but with many friends as well, I can say that if it were up to this generation to defend this country...well, it wouldn't just be up to the dishearteningly-oblivious examples we see in the media all the time. In all likeliness, they wouldn't make it very long, haha. But I can assure you, many of us would fight, tooth and nail, to the last breath, defending our loved ones and this country. And yes, all of this is coming from one of those bleeding heart liberals. So I just hope you guys understand that my generation is not so different from yours. We both experience the same motivating fear, the same drive to defend our home, the same guttural necessity when thinking of such a terrifying situation. THAT much, at least, hasn't changed.

As to the movie....looks good to me! I want to see it opening day.

It's been that way since the dawn of time. Don't sweat it. :)

There are two types of old people. Those who complain about the future and those who try to pass on what they know in the hopes that it will be better. You'll find a majority of the folks here actually fall into the latter category IMO.
