RED 4 - Hero X-Wing with machined armature (motorized)

Re: Hero X-Wing with machined armature (motorized)

Other than the four machined parts that the wings attach to what other parts are there to the mechanism that opens the wings? This has always had me stumped as to how the wings open.

Re: Hero X-Wing with machined armature (motorized)

your work is fantastic Julien
i'm impatient to see the final result !!!!
you built a red 3 or red five ?

Michel

Re: Hero X-Wing with machined armature (motorized)

Thanks guys,

I modified micro servo and built a pvc armature and machined some new parts from alu and brass.

Michel it will not be Red 3 nor Red 5 nor Red Leader nor Red 2... :lol

Man, I can't stop watching that video. Looking forward to seeing more!

Top-shelf work, Julien.

Re: Hero X-Wing with machined armature (motorized)

Thanks guys, actually I worked slowly on it since I'm working in the same time on the Sebulba's pod.
I hope to finish this before the end of the year !

I have a question guys, what were those paper thin plates on the Airfix cans ? I dont think it's styrene or other plastic because there is no lips due to the cuts (Ive never seen them cleaning the lips on the edges of what they cut lol), and there is no glue mark (another ILM's trademark :lol).
Could it be some adhesive paper or some kind of tape ?

Any clue would be greatly appreciated !

Vinyl tape.

Re: Hero X-Wing with machined armature (motorized)

Hey guys, that's not really an update since I took those pics almost 2 months ago ;)

First the holgate and reynolds brick sheet on the wing :

Then some castings :

I made a master pattern for the engine and try to pull it in resin. The result is not so bad although not as perfect as Beaz's.

On the left of the pic those are Beaz's sealab castings.

I would like to thanks a lot Beaz for the awesome casting of the sealab parts and for the brick sheet !

(y)thumbsup

Julien,

Happy to be able to contribute to such a great build.

I think your engines look just fine. Better than the ILM castings, for sure. :)

Re: Hero X-Wing with machined armature (motorized)

Thanks Beaz !

Actually they look good from the top, but they are not really round, more ovoidal lol :lol That's because I pulled them from the mold before the resin was well cured, but I can get them right with some hot water I think ! I hope so ;)

This is looking very sweet mate, I think you'll have to pretend to be sick at work to get some time to work on your projects! Have a great Xmas bud.

Re: Hero X-Wing with machined armature (motorized)

Thanks Guy ! ;)

As suggested by Franck Cerney, I used vinyl tape and Im quite happy with the result !

I also glued the engines halves together. The cone cap is done, I have to mold it.

As you can noticed I modified the R2 socket to match the model I'm building :)

Re: Hero X-Wing with machined armature (motorized)
