reCreating the Nostromo Crew Uniforms (Pic Heavy)

Hey folks, thought i share my current projects with you:

As the title says I dont really want to duplicate original uniform parts, I want to take my own „artistic interpretation“ of it...

I’m just not the big kind of „doing everything 110% screen accurate“, I just like the movie designs/aesthetics and i’m happy with a close replica/

After that I decided to take a try on Kane’s crew jacket, the trousers, Brett’s jacket and maybe his Hawaiian Shirt, his cap of course and Parker’s jacket:

Brett’s shirt has to be hand painted, that’s the pattern:

I found a matching basic color called “dust mint”

Also found some good looking patches on eBay...
For the jackets I just got the pattern which I modified from a regular sweatshirt, More pics when I get the fabrics !!!

The red grid shows the parallel endings of the pattern, so I just have to use two sheets of paper with two different motives in the middle (palms / fisher boat & sailboat / tree)

Brett’s hawaiian color scheme is currently not correct: it normally has a more greenish touch

This is the first :
Dark petrol sweatshirt fabric for Kane’s jacket
Yeah I know there’s a big controversy on the right color match..
is it blue?! is it green?! grey?! brown?! I think the closest thing is „petrol“: a greenish&bluish mix

Finally got the straps, 50 meters are enough for a lifetime I guess...

I wasn’t happy with the yellow stitching on the second badge-planet so I dyed it in an olive green (I used enamel paint, should be washing resistent)

This is pretty impressive given the source material. Back when the movies were originally made props didn't need to have too much detail (let's face it, there was no high-def!). I can't wait to see the final finished pieces you are working on. Keep it up!

Thx !!!
So, here’s a little extra: remember capt dallas & Ripleys Dual Casio watches ?!

Actually this are just two 10€ Casio F91W‘s put together with one of the left over straps, which I shortened and drilled an extra hole in !
Ok, it’s not screen accurate, but a geeky little gadget for anyone owning a 3D-printer: Anytime I use him, I reset the upper watch to 00:00:00 and set the alarm clock on the calculated time ( the date shows the number of the part I’m printing), and the lower watch is used for my daily wake-up alarm and regular time...

I started printing the crew pins, first I made some simple graphics:

With Microsoft’s 3D Builder you can generate easy geometric forms from graphics like this, then I selected the highest quality that my printer (Dremel 3D20) is able to do... pics tomorrow, with nice daylight !

That watch is pretty sweet! I do have to ask though, how would something like that be practical? Those crew pins are really nice, which printer do you use?

Printer is a Dremel 3D20 Idea Builder...loud as hell, but he does his job well !!!
Yeah, the watch [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] I have to admit, it isn’t suuuuper practical and I don’t use the second watch that often (as mentioned: to check printer times and to have a second alarm clock) but somehow I like it, a nice little “retro-smartwatch” with this A L I E N related touch

I finally finished my V2 jacket today !!!

It took a while more than I expected, but I’m pretty happy for a first-time-sewing project !
It’s not to cold for outside, and not to warm for inside, the collar flaps up, pockets aren’t big, but enough and the buttons close and open very nice, so I don’t need an extra zipper inside...
Next on the list is Brett’s jacket, I intend to make a light jacket for the warmer spring&summer days out of it...
