Recoloring Pleather?

Does anyone have experience in darkening or recoloring pleather? I have a blue pleather (polyurethane) moto jacket for my Babs 2014 Batgirl design, but the blue is more of a periwinkle than the nearly navy blue that she wears. I have seen conflicting messages while researching what to use. Some say use thin acrylic paint, other say not to. Some say to just use Rit dye, yet more say not to. I don't know which one to try.

Does anyone have experience coloring pleather? Thanks!
