Recaster Alert!

Just wanted to let everyone know that this person is a serious recaster and to stay far away from this piece of crap! His name is David and he recasted a few of my friends items that he bought from him back in July at a convention. He also recasted replicaprops.com smallville key, he also recasted licensed Labrynth dooknockers not to mention whatever else he recasted. I met him back in July and Sid Haig even gave him a chewing out about selling Captain Spaulding busts. His ebay name is davidthemonster and his website is http://www.themonstercompany.co.uk/. So everyone might want to check out his entire site to see if you know an item he recasted and send him emails. I will be meeting up with him again in November at a horror convention and will be speaking my mind to him and ruining his sales at his table. This creep needs to be stopped.

What sort of facts do you have to support your claims?

...

FYI - there is no such word as "recasted".

yes do you have any evidence? Please share, dont want to cruicify someone unjustly.

Yes i have plenty of evidence. You can look under his ebay name davidthemonster and see the smallville key he recasted from replicaprops.com, and if someone can tell me how to post pictures, I will post up the pics of my friends goonies key and the recasted key. Like I said before I seen his items in person at a convention in july. My buddy's items were bought by David in July right in front of my face and I had a feeling he would recast them. I also know that he's not the original artist for the batman manhole cover. I also have in in a photo or two I think from the convention. I will post that also as soon as I find it and figure out how to post pics on this forum. As soon As I get back from breakfast I'll post all the evidence.

You can host photos for free at photobucket.com just upload the photos then copy the bottom set of code under the photos and paste it into your post on here

Here are my buddy's key which is the copper color and the recasted key which is silver color. I just checked ebay and those items are down but are still up on his website at http://www.themonstercompany.co.uk/search.php?jssCart=5646960ac92745cfc9de1446df94d90b and the smallville key at http://www.themonstercompany.co.uk/product.php?xProd=655. Like I said earlier, everyone may want to take a look through his website to call out any other recasted items.

I just received this email back from David. He sells enough items and know's the business and writes a reply acting like he didn't know he was doing wrong. He was selling recasted items at the convention and that's one convention he will no longer be allowed to attend.

"Thank you for your email, how is it going? I have taken down the eBay listings straight away until further emails / conversations with yourself. Have I made a mistake? Are these your original sculpts? Have I wrongly assumed that these are not regular garage pieces produced / available to all in the US?

I know how you feel as some of our original items have been repro'd too by others. These are great items, let me know your thoughts and I look forward to a reply email.

Cheers David."

The Goonies keys look different to me but he is basically stating he thinks anything is up for grabs as far as mold making goes.

And as a reminder, there is no such word as "recasted".

Those keys look very different to me, off the bat I see 4 of 5 differences in the skull. The border by the "color" left eye (my left, not the skulls left) has a noticable angle on the bump, the "black and white" is softer bump. The spot under the teeth is rectangular in the B&W piece, and in the color it's dirtier looking. The color piece seems "smoother" to me in the details around the eyes. The borders around the eyes looks thinner on the color pic too.

So, this person didn't recast your work, he recast a friends work? Are you sure you're not jumping the gun?

No i'm not jumping the gun. Did you read his email where he even apologized for it? There is not difference in the keys. You have to consider difference in shadows and lighting that can and does make any two of the same item look different. I was there 3 feet from him when he bought the items. I already spoke to the convention director and he said that this person is a known problem throughout the convention circuit. He also has received C&D's in the past and another one is on the way from another film company for recasting licensed products. I would NEVER post about someone stealing peoples work unless I was 100% sure and this is 100%.

I love his SSG Blade Runner gun. It is recast off of the Oz Shop, or Marco Enterprise gun, or both (I am still not sure which of these came first?). It is even molded with some of the pieces in the wrong place. Of course since those guys haven't made them in over 10 years, maybe he thinks he is free to fill the hole left by them. Can't speak for any of the rest of the stuff myself.
