I am making a super cheap Pan Sword from Hook. The blade is red oak which cost me $2.50, the handle is a piece is dowel I had, the guard is a coconut with epoxy putty sculpted for detail both of which I had in possession, the handle will be wrapped in leather to match a screen used piece, I am painting the guard best I can to match the stunt sword, the blade will be painted gold. All in all I have spent $10 on supplies for the prop. Mind you it's still a work in progress.

Applied the final paint touch ups to the guard. The blade will be pained this afternoon.

that spot is odd it doesn't appear on the prop. Just the picture

Cool. Some cheap store brands actually create a decent golden finish and if you want to seal it without destroying the metallic look you can use future floor wax as a clear coat on top of it. The trick to preserve the metal finish is to mist on a few layers first, as a wet layer will react with the metallic paint and render it non-metallic in appearance. I think I heard this trick regarding painting chrome endoskulls. But as with anything - test it on something unrelated first.

I think you can also find cheaper alternatives to bare metal foil - basically a thin metal sheet with adhesive on the back.

Just a quick question: how difficult was it to do the blade?

About 30 minutes worth of sanding and shaping

WOAW... much less time than I thought. Think I'll have to go give this a try then, as I'd always wanted to make the Pan sword from Hook.

Can't wait to see your further progress! .)

Gold foil tape 2" wide is expensive. Just ordered some set me back 20 bucks. Anyone know a good flat clear coat for paint?

For the shell and handle? I would recommend Testors clear coats. Always worked for me. However... might want to look into using clear coats from the same brand as you've painted the rest - in case you've painted it. Different brands may cause a negative reaction.

Leather wrap for handle not yet glued. (Out of glue lol)
