Re-visiting my build for Vash's longcolt, fixing bad casts and new pictures !

Re: Vash's longcolt .45 scratchbuild from Trigun !

really like the look, i did a revolver a few years ago, the finish on mine was rubbish, however i focused more on the trigger/hammer movements. to get 'basic ideas' i took apart a toy cap gun and studied the movements and the spings before copying the parts in alloy..

Man this is amazing! I made the Pepakura version a couple years back and fiberglassed it. I bet when it's finished it will be good and sturdy for some gun spinning.

Re: Vash's longcolt .45 scratchbuild from Trigun !

Just wanted to add a couple more pictures to this, I am done with the gun itself, but I am still making molds to make a resin kit of this gun available. If I can get a decent kit going that I feel good about selling, I'll post it up in the junkyard.

Re: Vash's longcolt .45 scratchbuild from Trigun ! New pics pg 3

nice job, let us now when you have kits together, you know now your going to have to make a hellsing gun.

Re: Vash's longcolt .45 scratchbuild from Trigun ! New pics pg 3

Pretty amazing. Should make some bullets to finish it now ^^. Would totally buy it if you post it on the junkyard. Should make an interested forum to see how many people would buy the resin.

Re: Vash's longcolt .45 scratchbuild from Trigun ! New pics pg 3

I would buy one! In fact, I would buy a kit as-is from what I see of your pic's. Any polishing up and finishing can be done by someone who is familiar with modelling techniques, something I can do. Don't hold back!

I had saved several of the bad casting attempts of the barrel of the Longcolt and while digging through my junkbox for something, realized I had most of a gun. I really wanted to make one for my best friend so I set off to build another provided I could salvage one of the casts.

In this pic, you can see how bad the end of the barrel was with the air bubbles and such

So I used the good barrel from my scratch-build and made a simple push-mold with clay. I learned this from Blind Squirrel !

I then put a little resin in the clay and set the messed up barrel in there while it cured, and to my surprise it worked !

Here I had to make a new grip from scratch as I never made a mold of the original. This time instead of using MDF, I used 1/4 " Sintra, taped together with double sided tape and cut on the scroll saw. I then shaped it with sandpaper, files, and a rotary tool.

And here is where it stands now, I still have to build a latch, drill out the chambers, and one other small piece and I'll be done with fabrication.

I am still getting a lot of feedback from people that want kits, So whenever I can afford more silicone and resin I'll give it another shot . It's not perfectly accurate, but I think it would be nice for costumes and such.
