Now that there is a fine example of how to mold a Bio! I enjoy seeing people learn from other members, and Paul did such a good job that you seem have followed it perfectly! Kudos bro!
Many thanks guys. Pauls huntorial has been a great help as have munsons and a few others. Glad to see everyone feels it's a good solid try for my first.
Here we go . . . the very first cast! This was a learning experience for sure. So many little variables occur within such a short amount of time that it's hard to describe or at least it feels that way. However, your first cast will tell you everything you need to know.
Thomas, you did just a PHENOMENAL JOB on this bio. Very cool of Paul to let you use his as a starting point, but your final vision really came through. Looking forward to seeing the paint!
Dude holy crap!! Nice work bud!, i have been watching this thread for some time now, that looks awesome man. I love the detail and how clean it looks, pat yourself on the back
No thanks needed.I just thought it was a shame there was only one copy of that nice bio. You did al the work and it has paid off.
way to go thomas.
Now to start counting my pennies!
LOL
Wow man, all that hard work has paid off. That is one cracking bio, awesome work. All the details you add came out brilliantly, this is defiantly one to be proud of my friend.
Well done man, that is a sharp looking cast. I'm looking forward to seeing how you paint it! And you're more than welcome, for any help I've given...it's always a pleasure to see someone wanting to get more involved.
Okay, so I kinda lied about paint being next. Instead, I plan to show a step by step of how to get to that stage. There's a little bit of work that goes into a bio before you can paint it. It's not much but there are some things you'll need to know before you buy a raw helmet.

Firstly, the tools. From left to right. Reinforced cutting wheel, barrel sander, and two sizes of grinding bits. For my particular bio you'll need a 3/16ths drill bit for the tri-laser and housing. Then two other bits of your choosing. All of this can be found in a dermel tool kit if you don't already have them laying around.

Around the back lip you'll find flashing from when the bio was made. This can sometimes be left for you to deal with depending on the seller or how quickly you need the helmet. This is a fairly easy fix.

You'll want to take your cutting wheel and trim away any extra resin. Go slow and steady sos not to cut the bio lip itself.

Once done use your barrel sander to smooth it out flush. You'll want to use a high grit sandpaper to get it even smoother.
On the next update I'll show you how to remove the visor bits . . .
I just love how you're showing us the COMPLETE process from casting to painting. I bet some peeps that haven't done this before are going to strike gold once they see this thread.
Keep up the good work Thomas!
