Re: Rapunzel ( and Flynn ) WIP! :: Pic heavy 1st post!

Thanks!!!
And I'm entirely flattered that one of the best Tony Stark's in existence is now my 'friend' !! Woo hoo!! Have always admired from afar, so thank you muchly for the compliments! :D

Re: Rapunzel ( and Flynn ) WIP! :: Pic heavy 1st post!

I voted for you in the Costume Contest. Incredible work, really great costume.

Re: Rapunzel ( and Flynn ) WIP! :: Pic heavy 1st post!

So did you ever have a frying pan?

Re: Rapunzel ( and Flynn ) WIP! :: Pic heavy 1st post!

James, thank you! I really appreciate the support!!

Jedi - I did at home, since we only went to bars ( more club type than pubs ) for Halloween, I didn't bother trying to bring it in. It was FREEZING here in Canada and I didn't want to pay for coat check, so dashing through the parking lot was enough of a challenge. Didn't want to get up there, have bouncers tell me I couldn't bring it in and have to run back and forth again. BBRRRRRrrrr!

BUT once the whole thing is done, I acquire some more wigs, and a chameleon, you can bet that there'll be a photospam, frying pan included.

Ah! Got it! I would suggest making a craftfoam frying pan. I can't wait for more pics. You did a superb job.

Re: Rapunzel ( and Flynn ) WIP! :: Pic heavy 1st post!

I'm currently in the process of cleaning up the mess of rainbow carnage of fabric, costumes, wigs and accessories left splattered all over my floor from Halloween ( yep, I procrastinated on that too! ) so I couldn't get crafty and add a fun background, but here's a random shot minus shoes plus frying pan before we headed out for the night!

Slightly distorted 'cause my photog was lazy and sitting on the couch. Angles + wide angle lens at no zoom = stretchy weird subject matter. Beautiful camera, my little Sony, but I HATE that wide angle lens.

This is the first chance I've had to read your entire build thread. I loved the costume from the completed photos I've seen, but looking at the work you put into this really blew me away.

Re: Rapunzel ( and Flynn ) WIP! :: Pic heavy 1st post!

Hey there! I've been so impressed with your images on tumblr so to see the full process is absolutely mindblowing. I still can't believe that you didn't use a pattern at all for the corset bodice - have you had experience in corsetry prior to this project? Because if not, whoa, I salute you. I'm still trying to work out a pattern to follow to make my own Rapunzel bodice, and it's not proving easy in the slightest.

All the best for the Hallowe'en competition, you really deserve it! :)

Re: Rapunzel ( and Flynn ) WIP! :: Pic heavy 1st post!

Thank you!!!

I have no idea how I pulled off the corset either. Good luck and trial and error! I just try to find the seams on reference images, cut out the pieces to match ( much larger for error and tailoring ) and go from there!

I've used a pattern for the bodice of my strumpet dress from Pirates of the Caribbean, but I'm pretty sure I didn't do it right. LOL I also made one for my catwoman costume, but it's not a real, functioning corset...so I don't know if that counts...haha

If you have any questions, feel free to ask away, I'd be happy to help. :) I'm looking forward to following some of your projects! :D HOORAY FOR MORE LADIES ON BOARD!

Bizarro Lois- Thank you so much! Still lots of work to go into it in the future, too! I LOVE this costume and don't think it'll ever be 100% finished. @_@

Re: Rapunzel ( and Flynn ) WIP! :: Pic heavy 1st post!

I gave my votes to you and Zlurpo in the contest :D

How sweet, sharing the love for Disney Royalty!! ;D Thank you! Tangled is SUCH a fantastic movie and the costumes are so vibrant and beautiful! I really appreciate it ( and I'm sure he does too! haha )

Re: Rapunzel ( and Flynn ) WIP! :: Pic heavy 1st post!

Just an outstanding job...brilliant really! My 3 year old son has a crush on you now lol...you got are vote!

Cheers :)

Re: Rapunzel ( and Flynn ) WIP! :: Pic heavy 1st post!

I still say you need a screen accurate frying pan.... 100% cast iron!

Re: Rapunzel ( and Flynn ) WIP! :: Pic heavy 1st post!

CONGRATZ! don't let the forum get you down. The RPF said it was perfectly legal to get votes from Social Networks. They just had to register first. More power to you getting the votes. You did a GREAT job on your Tangled costume!

Re: Rapunzel ( and Flynn ) WIP! :: Pic heavy 1st post!

I am just going to jump in here to say 'Congrats' on winning and AWESOME cosplay!! I started to read the whole thread, but I just don't have the time, since I'm supposed to be working on a costume for my daughter for a con this weekend. My other daughter wants to do Tangled w/ her bf some day. I just wanted to ask (and sorry if this was addressed/answered already), but you mentioned something about having fabric made w/ the design? Can you give me the info on that? Who/where do you go for something like that? Since you made up the design, are you willing/able to allow others to buy from your design? I've been killing myself trying to find any brocade that comes close...I didn't even know one could 'design/order' fabric. Did you have to mortgage your house to afford it? heh. Any info is greatly appreciated!!

Re: Rapunzel ( and Flynn ) WIP! :: Pic heavy 1st post!

Saxon , THX! I'm currently stuck in bed with back problems so forgive me if I get lazy with my grammar while typing on my bb.
For the fabric, I collected a boatload of hi res images from posters, the artbook, dolls, wallpapers, screenshots...you name it, I saved it. I illustrated the design in photoshop...with a mouse...since I don't own a tablet. I used spoonflower, which is a custom fabric printing site and uploaded my design there. It is expensive but I got the least I could to get what I needed it for done. Cotton runs around 18 a yard, the skirt panel was silk at 28 a yard I believe. Plus shipping...but they do have free worldwide shipping promos from time to time.

I definitely recommend ordering a swatch book if you use it. I still haven't and keep paying for it. My angelica fabric was off in colour and I plan on reordering it and the first yard I ordered for rapunzel came out pink instead of light purple! Even with my new fabrics I had to dye them to get them the colour I wanted.

I've made some designs available for sale in the past and may do so for the rapunzel prints but at the moment I'm keeping them near and dear to me. I kind of just don't want to make it public and see my work everywhere in the cosplay and costuming community, but I would consider making it available for a short time for you to order some for the kids. :) PM me when you need more info and we can arrange something.

Thanks everyone for the congrats and kind words. I'm totally a drama free person so I can't say i'm delighted with how things are or were, but I appreciate the kind words from my peers. :)

Good thing about the back problems and bed rest days, I can work on my embroidery some more! Yay!
