Hey aelynn, amazing costume! I've been watching this for a while, fantastic work, and very accurate!

I have a question for you thats kind of unrelated....Where did you buy the shoes for the Hook costume you made last year and what kind are they? My girlfriend and I are going as Hook and Tinkerbell this year and I've been putting together the costume over the past couple weeks but I'm stuck on the footwear....I noticed you lived in Ontario as well, any particular store you can reccommend? What about the red-stickers for the heels?

Wow! Its turning out so great! I'm so jealous of your lightweight braided wig. Mine is soooo heavy. :[ Next time, insulation tubes are a no-no. My wig absolutely KILLS my neck. And when I take it off, I get very light headed. My next wig is going to be her loose loooooong hair, but I really like your braided wig! Would you mind if I followed in your steps for a lighter braided wig in the future?

I was also wondering where you found your pleather for Flynn's doublet. I'm having the hardest time trying to find that perfect turquoise/teal pleather online. :[

OT::

Hi Vince! Whereabouts are you's from!? I love discovering fellow Ontarians! Haha We're from the Niagara Falls area.

The shoes are pilgrim costume shoes... I think they're by Funtasma, which I think is a brand by Pleaser... or something like that. I got them online though...with this much short notice, the only places I can really recommend are some of those "Brand Name Shoe Warehouse" places or shops that carry Halloween footwear. If you're in the nearby area, there's a costume shop in the Falls but I'm not sure that they have these... I've only ever gone for cheap accessories and/or makeup.

The red sticker on the heel is adhesive vinyl for decals on cars. Got that off e-bay too... but maybe a parts source or whatever they're called might have some?

BACK ON TOPIC!

Bodice is almost done!!! I tried embroidering the sleeves... did not work. I regret using pink tights for them. Though they're comfy and stretchy and the perfect colour and 'ultra soft' ( haha! ), the elasticity just doesn't work for embroidering. So I'm going to have to paint the designs on for now. Wow... there is SO MUCH that I want to change with this costume after Halloween I almost feel like I should just remake the whole thing. :|

Anyways, it's looking good! Hoping to finish officially building it tomorrow! Then painting and decorating the next couple days after that.

Decided I might not debut it on the 22nd... we have a couple other costumes we REALLY wanted to wear this year and they aren't really suitable for a bar or club environment since they cover our faces and we wouldn't be able to see anything/probably wouldn't get in anywhere. Therefore we've kind of decided to wear those to the house party on the 22nd and then Rapunzel and Flynn on the 28th and 29th... and 31st of course!!

And here's a little preview of Flynn's wig.

It's definitely not as red as it appears in the first couple shots... bad lighting and reflective white wighead made it look black with a regular flash and the slow shutter always looks weird. The last pic... well... let's just say he's not as enthusiastic about progress shots as I am!

Bodice is DOOOOOOONE!

Construction-wise anyways. Just have to add the sweetheart neckline, embroider the eyelets and paint the designs on the sleeves. I really dislike the sleeves ( the ribbon is bumpy, the 'puffs' are too long, I feel, and I want to make the actual sleeves with a semi-sheer material without stretch so I can embroider them ) but overall I'm pretty happy with how it looks.

Camera died so all I have is crappy phone camera.

Tomorrow I make the skirt! And then the week leading up to Halloween I'll just be painting and embroidering. All that fun and relaxing stuff. *PHEW* I think I'm actually going to make it this year!

OT but thought I'd share anyways!

Took a break from Punzie to get these finished!

Oh gosh. Still photos do not capture how HILARIOUS these looked in person. The mouth is outlined in thick foam so it has a permanent but flexible shape to it as opposed to the black-hole-in-blanket types that wander around cons. They were SO MUCH FUN to wear and people loved them! We won 1st place which was a 26er of Rum. WOO HOO. We are SET for the weekend!

...and to get me through the week. IT'S ALL I HAVE LEFT TO FINISH RAPUNZEL AND FLYNN.

Thank you SO MUCH.

In the few places I've posted it, it's been getting a very good response... and it's not even done yet! I can't even say how happy any positive feedback makes me...I really poured my heart and soul into this ( so far, so it's a good thing I have some leftover! ) and for how proud I am with what I've done on it 'til this point, the feedback is even more encouraging to finish it to the best of my ability and continue to improve it in the future!

I showed my 4yo. niece and she loves it. She said she wants to be Rapunzel for Halloween now, but they already got her costume. :lol Now she says I have to see the movie. *ducks*

I'm currently embroidering at a rate of 6 inches/hour... come to the sad realization that I procrastinated too hard and won't have it done for Halloween. :\ So I'll have to sew some grosgrain ribbon over top and make do with that, then tear it off and finish up the embroidery later on. BOOOOOO.

Oh well. Lesson learned!
