What size Backer did you use?, and Ill fallow that up with what size of piping also, thinking im proble going this direction with my beads and I have 3/4 in backer.
i used 3/4 and covered them in a mixture of black paint and liquid latex. I suggest you use a sponge to brush and stipple the latex on, it'll give a nice texture to the dreads. Also definitely use the copper pipe beads the weight will weigh the dreads down and it'll look more naturalWhat size Backer did you use?, and Ill fallow that up with what size of piping also, thinking im proble going this direction with my beads and I have 3/4 in backer.
3/4" as well. i recommend you take a small bit of backer rod with you when choosing the right pipe though just as a test. There shouldn't be a problem though, mine slid right on, and i secured them with just a drop or two of super glue just as an extra precaution.what was the diameter of the copper pipe you used?
I used 3/4" backer rod and covered in a latex and black paint mixture. just regular black paint. Its been since awhile since ive made them and ive noticed some of the latex are sticking to each other, and when i pull them apart it makes a small hole in the dreads. But nothing a bit of latex cant fix.I saw tht you used backer rod there and that's what ive done for mine as well, but i was just wondering how well the paint is staying on for you? Mine isn't bad but itll chip away in due time. Jw wondering what paint u used? oh and how'd you form the tips too? I used an exacto-knife and scraped it away but im always interested in other ways of doing things? Thanks and keep up the great work, it looks great

As for the tips i used a scissor and made as many small cuts going all the way around the tip then used a Bic lighter to melt away any hard edges and tried to make it all smooth

Ah kool, yea i used the 3/4" backer rod tht i found at homehardware and sparyed it with spray paint but it peels every now and then. and the scissor idea sounds so much easier then what i was doing lmao thanks so much
Have you tried wiping baby powder over each dread and then take a damp soft cloth to wipe off the powder? George may have a better answer, but it would seem to me from what I've read, you'd need to powder post-latex due to latex's stickiness.
Now this may just be crazy talk, more or less a brainstorm here, but I'm wondering if you could prop a hot iron up on end and roll the tip of the backer rod down the iron to make it more conical? If it were me, I'd start with a low setting and slowly increase the heat until it worked. Of course, I'd use a really long extension cord and do it in the middle of the back yard "just in case" with a bucket of water nearby. Oh, and definitely vid it up for future YouTube Instructional or comedy, whichever
