R2 SoCal Party Pics

We had R2LA IV this weekend at my place. Loads of R2's and other droids. My R2 pictured with the R5 is the only fan made, main character LFL has used on screen (TV) acting as the character (so far...at least it's a first. I'm sure there will be some 3P0's doing this soon.). There were about 50 people (about 25 builders plus family and friends), went from 11am till 1am.

Go here to see 12 Interactive R2's doing a synchronized cantina dance.

Man I wish I was there. What was your R2 in that was Lucasfilm related? Was it a TV commercial or something?

Some comedy skits. Nationally, one for MTV Movie Awards with Jimmy Fallon (as R5) and VH1 Big in 05 "Dancing with the Star Wars" with the "Dancing with the Stars" cast (as R2) (the Wook was in that one dancing up a storm.). And the locally televised FIDM fashion show (as R2) (Wook was there too.). Not to forget, it's all the droids in the Pink Five series (inclluding the pink one, or maybe you haven't seen that part yet ;))

I failed to mention the R5 in the picture belongs to Vince (Corellian Exports). He was planning to bring it to the SoCal prop party that is coming up. The R4 is Raul Raygoza's. Christy is the Slave Leia, I think more pics were taken of her then the droids.

That Leia is amazing, real lifelike.

The dance must be a guiness book of records entry.

Great stuff.

I can't take credit for either of those. The R2 dance was thought up by an R2 builder, Victor Franco.

I heard it took about 9 months to create the Leia, it started out as a real hoot, lots of excitement going into the project, then of course it kind of simmered for a while. I'm told the last few hours were the most difficult.

It took me several seconds to get this line. :lol

The Wook

Yeah, I'm still.... working on that one Wook. :)

Man that photo with all the R2's is AMAZING Mike. So awesome. I always liked that amp shade R2 - So, was he a prisoner or an imperial escort droid in ANH?

I suspect that 9 months was just the initial setup phase. I suspect it took 20-something years for that Leia project to get to it's current stage of development. Time well spent in my opinion. It looks great :love

Seeing all those R2 units in various stages of development is simply inspiring. I soooooo want to do this built. I just don't have the facilities or finances for it right now. Maybe in another year or two I'll be able to get a start on it.

The astromechs look awesome. Thanks for sharing the pics.

We had an R2 Group Builders meeting the same day here in Massachusetts. We had a great time but there were no where near as many droids. :lol Awesome pics guys.

And Christy's Leia... oh my.... we DEFINITELY didn't have one of those at our R2 Builders party. :lol

Great stuff Mike. I hope to be able to attend one of those in the near future, once I get my lil guy up and running.

And the youtube video was amazing. Excellent work.
