R2-D2 toy, 2002 Hasbro, interactive - Stopped working?

So I found this at a yard sale and am trying to get it working for my kids. I refreshed the batteries (4x DD and 4x AA) and it powers on, the head spins, but just blinks a red light. There's no sounds, no voice response, no wheel/leg movement.

Any advice on troubleshooting and taking apart to look for a fix?
