God bless youtube.

I had another great day in the shop today. Got the sound system up and running. (again. long story)

The Sound of Music

Here's a link to the blog page, if you want to read all the gruesome details of todays build. Great stuff. Lots of good work accomplished today.

Blogz R Us

Also managed to sneak in a couple of photos of the new honey over the past couple of days. Who knew I looked so good with a blonde????

Matt,

Whats the story on the sound system? Its been so long since I've touched an R2 my brain has turned to mush...

The sound system rocks, and that's all there is to the story :)

Truth be told, I'm using a product called the CFSound III to manage playback of digital files, and a 12 channel remote to trigger them. Here's the link to the CFSound home page...

http://www.cfsound.com/index_CFSound.asp

For under 200 bucks, you get what you need. it's an amazing piece of technology. As per my blog, I owned the CFSound II, and moved up to the III. The III is worlds better, for two reasons: first, it plays much higher quality wav files. Second, it has a volume control build in for both the speakers and the line out. The II's volume control wouldn't work on the line out, so you'd get REALLY REALLY REALLY loud R2 sounds. I'm talking, SILLY loud. hurt your ears loud. So I'm very happy that they made that mod.

The 12 channel remote was from ebay. with rules agains posting live auctions what they are, I won't post a link, but all you have to do is search for "12 channel remote" and you'll find what I use. The dude sells them on ebay all the time. no shortage.

The CFSound unit actually handles 24 separate, triggerable sounds, so I may end up buying another 12 channel remote, and having 24 pre-recorded r2 sounds available. One of those will be a 20 minute loopable wav that has random sounds. That's basically what will run in the background, and when I want R2 to say something in particular, I'll trigger it using the remote.

i'm going to update my blog and put in links to that stuff above, in case anyone else has similar interests.

Also, gary, great to hear from you. you've actually always been an inspiration to me as far as building goes. You always build high quality stuff REALLY fast. i recall your delorean going together super fast, and god knows how many droids you built. :)

Plenty of new updates today also, including the completion of the housing for the front power coupler.

Not sure I understand the inner dome fiberglass thing. You're using FG to adhere the inner dome to the outer? Or is the FG serving as an ersatz inner dome by making the panels stay in place?

Yes, the ersatz part :)

My inner dome that shipped with the skull didn't fit quite right. I tried a bunch of different methods to get it to fit, but ultimately ended up destroying it. So now it's off to fabricate a replacement. I think this time I just might have gotten it right.

Thanks dude. If only I could make money doing it.. But then, it would probably lose it's charm. As it is, I'm having a total blast putting the dude together. Havne't gotten bored or overwhelmed once.

In other news, I've solved my inner dome problems. And thank goodness too, as it was starting to become a real pain in the rear.

Here's the latest pic:

Very picture intensive day back at the blog if you want to check out jan 24.

Do you have any pics of how rough you made the area that you were JB welding? I used it and roughed the area with a file and eventually it came apart. Maybe it wasn't roughed up enough?

But now you don't need one, right?

You trying to sell me a dome dude??? :)

As for the JBWeld pre-pics, I dont have any, but next time I do some work, I'll snap some.

:lol

Naw, just still trying to understand what you're doing. If FG has taken the place of the inner dome, why are you having a replacement fabricated? :)

Woops, I may have misspoken earlier. The Fiberglass is replacing the inner dome. it is my fabricated replacement :) So yeah, only one. But now it's done. Just need to clean it up a bit.

And it's great news, because that missing inner dome pretty much ground progress to a halt on the dome. That's not to say I've been dead in the water. Still been plenty busy with tons of other stuff. Just not dome related.
