R2 1/350 TOS Enterprise build!

Bryan,

Its obvious your a good model builder so I'm just curious.....why didn't you light it?

I appreciate the compliment but I am pretty amateur when it comes to model building, especially considering the company in this community. I have never built a lighted kit and even with the R2 plug and play option, it was intimidating to me. Also, since my refit isn't lit I figured I would do the same with this one. I might consider doing something on a much smaller scale, like light the engines of a BSG Viper or something, to learn better how it works. I am so amazed seeing people who make beautifully lit refits. I even had Steve Neil commission build a lit K'tinga for me earlier this year, it's amazing.

Sonofabeach! I have to stop reading threads like this or I'm going to end up buying one of these kits even though I can't really afford it and don't have the display space for it.

Seriously nice work Bryan! If nothing else, it proves this kit can really shine without lighting and/or other add-on/aftermarket parts. (y)thumbsup

I didn't have the $, or the display room.

Yet I bought one anyway. I knew I would regret it mightily if I let it slip away. Haven't received it yet, I purchased late, but I'm not in a hurry. After all, I have no room to display it anyway.

I did that when Polar Lights initially released their 1:350 scale Refit and NX-01 kits. Then I opened the boxes and saw the size of the primary hull for each kit, and the reality hit that I don't have the room to display either kit. I'd gladly trade or sell them to get the 1:350 TOS kit, but nobody wants 'em. :lol

Beautiful work for an "amateur." Personally, there's something beautifully sculptural that happens with the TOS Enterprise without lights. I have the Master Replicas model and I enjoy looking at it with the lights off as much or more so than with the lights and the motors on. I can't explain it.

I wouldn't mind seeing a perfect profile shot to see how level the nacelles ended up. That's the main issue that I have with my MR model; the nacelles have a slight droop to them, despite the metal armature within—still really bugs me. Even the main hull on the MR has a very slight droop.

Also, did you do anything regarding the grid lines? Looks good from afar. How about a close-up of those?

Thanks, and great job. I also like your other toy(s) in the garage—like that Jeep!

Your MR has droop - mine doesn't...

The OOB build look pretty darn fantastic... I bought one with the light kit to build for a good friend of mine... Waiting not so patiently for it to arrive...

Look at it from the side carefully and tell me if the nacelles are not slightly drooping. I'm only talking a degree or so, but it's noticeable, as they are not perfectly horizontal. Practically all the MRs that I have noticed online have this issue...

I got home late tonight but I will take some photos for you from the side so you can see how they fit tomorrow. :thumbsup

Hell, throw a yardstick across that thing and see if it's drooping!
( He says while counting rivets, 1...2...3...4......)

On another note, Bryan, all I can say is great job brother!!!!!:thumbsup

Who's counting rivets? By the way, you don't need a yardstick—or a carpenter's level—to confirm nacelle droop. You're an experienced Enterprise collector/modeler... the eye comes with the territory. :wacko

Thanks again so much guys! I really appreciate the compliments. :) Here are two side views, some shots of the grid lines, and a beauty shot I liked. :thumbsup

One More..By the way, those two portraits of my dogs I commissioned from an artists here on the RPF a number of years ago!

Since we're on this topic , several years ago in another forum (can't remeber exactly when) this was a heated discussion. Yes, Proper, you are right... the MR did have some small droop detected. I posted my MR Enterprise on that forum to illustrate my situation (nacelle centerline versus saucer horizontal plane):

Yes, exactly. Great illustration of the MR droop nacelle issue! You wonder why or how this happened when you consider that there is a steel armature inside there... apparently the armature itself was misaligned or installed wrong. :unsure Makes the ol' gal look tired, like she's dragging her "feet."
