R2 1/350 TOS Enterprise build!

Thanks for the replies, guys. Actually the texture issue is my fault, not R2's. The kit is molded in smooth plastic, it's the automotive primer paint I am using that gave the surface a texture, which I love the look but didn't realize this would create an issue with the decals. So an FYI for those who are planning out their builds. It's no so bad that I feel I need to redo them and the way I will have it displayed it won't be noticeable. In general the decals are very sturdy and agreeable to work with, even more so then the ones that came with the refit kit a few years ago which I also built. :thumbsup

Using a high grit sandpaper was my thought also. 600 or higher will work great. The primer you sprayed on is meant to be sanded smooth because it is a crack filler.
I thought about suggesting that when you first announced you were gonna use it as the main paint for the kit. My apologies for not doing so, I assumed where I shouldn't have!

No worries, Kenny, and useful for others going forward. The color and texture of the primer is very interesting but this is the issue with it. I'm going to hit the sub assemblies with a flat lacquer today and will post pictures of the result and how the decals look, I finished putting them all on yesterday.

Man, this kit is so well engineered. The primary hull/dorsal connection popped right in and is a perfect, snug fit. Well done R2!

Damn-It-Man, They need to hurry up and send me the lighting kit and photo-etch so I can get started.

Looking great Bryan!!!!!

So in preparation for the final assembly, I thought it would be fun to break out the fleet! Here are the Hallmark ornaments versions, the Polar Lights 1/1000 versions, and the Big Dog Polar Lights refit!

That first picture looks like it could be one of those little family stick figures you see on the back of cars!!!

Nicely done so far. I can't wait to see your 350 TOS next to the 350 Refit.

Finished! Let me know if anyone wants any images from different angles. This kit is a blast to make. It's really straight forward and incredibly well engineered.

Thanks for the extra comparison shots. It looks fantastic! I want to build mine but waiting for the light kit. The Refit is bigger but does it feel like the TOS is bigger?

Dimension wise the refit looks bigger from all angles. The TOS is beefier and is actually much heavier, which I would attribute to the substantial internal reinforcement R2 built into the kit.

Very nice work Brian! Love the side by side of the tos & refit! Got a refit under construction now, but seeing your build is making me want to shelve it again for the tos.

Great Work!
