Sad to see him go. He was always funny in everything he did even when it was a tiny bit part.

When I was in high school there was an episode of the Jeffersons that had George showing up at a KKK meeting by accident. Goerge reluctantly saved the life of (I beleive) the leader when he had a heart attack.
I completely expected the usual happy sit-com ending, but the writers showed some brains by having the character whose life was saved tell his son that he would rather have died than have a black man save him.

I don't think I've seen it since it originally aired, but it was an episode I continue to remember when I run into people like that KKK leader.

I remember Sherman being fantastic in that episode.

That was one of the great things about The Jeffersons and it's predecessor All in the Family; they didn't shy away from controversial subjects for fear of offending someone or just to get a cheap laugh. Neither show would get network approval today.

I think they were the same writers who wrote All In the Family since it's a spin off, that is another show that never gets credit for smart writing. I just looked it up and the Jeffersons was one of many spin offs of All in the family.

I remember seeing him interviewed and he discussed how he developed that distinctive walk he used for that character. Swinging his hands behind him was to wave away the farts. :lol

I will always remember him from Mr. Nanny,

There was I believe a Twilight zone short episode with him and Ron Glass where he's a Mathmatics professor, and Ron is Satan and gives him a challenge for his soul. It's a truly great episode, just the changing quotes on Satan's t-shirt alone makes the episode worth watching.

I loved tht episode! Ron Glass made a great Devil! In the end, Sherman's challenge to the Devil was to "Get Lost!" He beat the Devil! Great episode.
