Quick Question - Colour of Todds Indy Shirt

Just received mine today, I have a lot of 'close enoughs' in my wardrobe but i wanted to get the definitive article for Halloween 2010 (and the last of summer).

Was surprised to see though how yellow/brownish it is. I'd always thought of the Indy shirt as being somewhere between a white and a grey. In the stock photo's it looks lighter too.

Any thoughts as to it's accuracy?

I have a few of Todd's and a couple Wested shirts. They all have slightly different hues to them. Probably a little due to me wearing one more than the other. My Todd's has lightened up a fair amount due to sun exposure (I line dry it outside).

I can' t tell you the SA issue other than I like both makers. I am probably going to order a Magnoli shirt just for kicks as a Christmas present to myself.

Cheers

It's my understanding that Todd's matches the Raiders shirt, and IMO Magnoli's (the one I own) matches TOD. Wested's shirt is kind of crap.

The true color of Indy's shirt - especially in RAIDERS - has been debated endlessly.

It is undeniable that it looks different in every scene, mostly because of the lighting, but also probably because some shirts used in some scenes were newer than shirts used in other scenes, or more laundered, etc, etc.

As sebastian said, Todd's shirts have come in various shades themselves. The earlier runs were distinctly darker and more khaki. The later runs were a bit more tan, and somewhat lighter.

To my eye, the TOD and LC and KOCS shirts all appeared darker than the Raiders shirts. I believe TOD and LC shirts both had those nasty contrast buttons on them (like the popular Cabelas close enough safari shirt).

So it all depends on what look you are going for. As always, SA color is next to impossible to agree on, because there are so many factors that influence how a color is perceived. IMO, if you're going for Raiders, wash the Todd's shirt and leave it out in bright sun, as sebastian indicated. It will lighten up.

Here is a pic from last halloween with both shirts (my avatar all grown up). I am wearing the Todd's and Indiana Bones has the Wested. In fact he is still wearing it now and probably will for years to come. The wested doesn't wrinkle up enough for my tastes, but the quality of construction is good.

If you watch ROTLA you can see the shirt is actually a light Khaki. Compare that next to Marion's Cairo blouse which is pure white. So Todd's shirt isn't too bad.

I got a small and the fit is great, very flattering. The epaulettes don't want to lie flat but a stitch or two should fix that. I do wish the thing were a shade lighter though.

Of all the vendors, Todd's is not the lightest, but they all vary on a scale of tan/brown. I'm pretty sure the Wested shirt is the lightest. I think maybe Azuma's LC shirt is one of the darker ones, with maybe Magnoli. Wested's shirt (the one in my Avatar)actually looks pure white when photographed. Then there is the Adventurebilt shirt, which I haven't seen in person but guys seem to LOVE.

I think for accuracy, Azuma's shirts are the way to go, but in terms of value, it is always hard to beat Todd Coyle. Don't worry about the shirt being too light. It all depends on what scene you are trying to emulate anyway.

Courtesy of "theman" from Club Obi Wan, here are the What's Price Glory shirt, the Todd's shrit, and an Azuma Last Crusade shirt:

And here is another comparison of different brands in different light. Thanks to midwestwhips from Club Obi Wan:

And finally, another great comparison from Erri at COW with (from left to right) Noel Howard, Wested, and Todd's. In this one you can clearly see how much darker Todd's is than Wested.

I definitely don't think the Todd's is too light here, do you?
