Quick MR Communicator Question

Hey, I just picked up the MR TOS Tricorder and am hunting for a good price on the TOS Phaser and even Enterprise studio scale. Kicking myself for not grabbing them when they first came out, but I recently discovered that I like collecting TOS too. I love the tricorder...just got it today. As for the communicator...I faked it with an experience comm in the MR case.

The questions:

Are the MR and the Experience pretty close? What differences? Pics?
Is the speaker screen grill thingy on the inside silver or gold on the MR?
Is the body style as "wrinkly" as the experience or more smooth? Wondering if the MR comm is the same texture as the MR TOS Tricorder...
Trying to decide if its worth picking up a legit one even though Id rather spend the money on getting a phaser...opinions?

Thanks

The experience and MR comms are identical in shape and size. Sounds are different, motor is louder on the experience, different texture, and different shaped button on the back of the experience.

Also, the "Experience" comm's call button is in the shape of the delta (which I personally think is cool) as opposed to the MR call button which is just a circle.

The general feel of the communicator and the overall build quality of the MR is strikingly superior to the Experience version. The sounds were also significantly better on the MR comm.

The shape and proportions on both of them are pretty wonky, so you're not really getting anything more accurate to the original props, just a higher quality item.

It's been a while since I've seen an MR tricorder, but I don't think the texture of the body is the same. The MR comm was oddly matte and very gray. I think a lot of people either buffed their MR comms or used Armor All to get a more accurate finish.

In the end I just couldn't get over the "fat butt" profile of the body or the shape of the brass lid. Now that there are more accurate examples of the TOS communicator available I really can't recommend the MR for anything other than filling a hole in a dedicated Master Replicas collection.

Agreed. You're better off getting one of Dennis' or John's kits and having someone do a hero build for you.

I agree, this is probably the best route to go. The cost of the kit and having someone build it will still come out less than an MR Communicator and you will have a much better Communicator.

Nthing the kit route. The MR was already inaccurate, having Comm kits available made directly from a Wah Chang original just seals the deal.
