Quick ME3 Weapon Pep Questions

I started work on an m-06 carnifex pistol pepakura project and I'm finding the model off of the Pepakura gallery has a lot of extra geometry that is making things a bit more of a challenge than I had thought.

Has anyone done any of these? If so do you have any tips?

Does any one know if the files off of the 405th are any better/different?

Got most of the top part done. Much like my sword it is rather crooked. How do you guys keep things like this square or close to square?
