Question for you Stormtroopers

Hey, I was interested in possibly doing a stormtrooper kit, but I wanted to ask, obviously the armor inhibits some movement and flexibility, but to what extent? How hard is it to sitdown, run, bend over, squat, or walk upstairs?

And how easy is it to trim up armor to your size? Do you use a sander or a dremel or what? Thanks

You can trim the armor with heavy duty scissors and some sandpaper. Mobility is pretty limited. Upstairs is easier than going down. Say goodbye to sitting, but running is a possibility depending on how you trim the pieces. Granted you could take excess plastic off the leg and ab pieces for more mobility, but the look of the suit will probably suffer. I'm the membership officer over at FISD so if you're interested in putting a kit together come on over and we'll get you set up.

I can sit on a stool, not a chair. I can run bowlegged :)

Like above I can go upstairs easier than down. A contributor is the loss of vision from the nose down so stairs and kids can be dangerous obstacles.

The FISD are a great bunch, they helped me with my suit and my questions :)

In my old TK (FX) I could sit, run, do pushups. In my TD (ATA) I can run and sit on a stool, and if not for the pack, probably a chair.

It's all in how you trim the pieces and how the suit fits you as to if you'll be able to sit or not. FISD is def. the best place to start off your search.

Thanks guys, I'll be sure to check out FISD, and get in contact with them when I start my armor.

The other thing I'd add is that your build will also have an impact on whether you can sit down or not. If you're of an "Atheletic" build like me (Read: "Skinny" :lol ) then you also gain some movement internally even if the armour is static (hope that makes sense)

I'm one of the lucky few who can sit down in my armour (I even managed to get into a lowered car with bucket seats on one occasion (due to necessily rather than desire I hasten to add!) but I wouldn't recommend it!)

On the whole, you'll be standing up so won't worry too much if you can't.

Like mentioned before. I myself can sit on a stool but not all the way down. Going up stairs is much easier than down. Some people have modded there cod piece for more flexibility and If I dropped my keys I'm screwed. I love a handler and hate armor kisses

Stormtroopers can't sit down, bend over, or potty.:lol

In all honesty like everyone else already said it all depends on how you trim it. I can sit in a chair, kneel, and jog somewhat akwardly if I really needed too while wearing mine.

It's all up to how you build it, my AP suit I made the butt plate detachable so I can sit down with out bending/warping my armor and my front cod + ab piece is held on the right side by 1 snap + belt so all I have to do is unhook those and I can use the restroom. Though I will have to say that I'm 5'6 and have trimmed my theighs down and I can't do much more then a jog in mine, full on run would destroy both me and the armor.

It's all about trimming the armor to fit YOU.

Trimming can take a while and it can take many trooping events to eventually get everything worked out just right but it can be done.

I can sit down in a chair in mine. I have a detachable cod in front and a zip up unitard underneath so I can pee in mine. I can get down on one knee or both knees, stairs are only difficult because of the limited view in the helmet but actual mobility in the armor is great for me.

Also don't forget to add in helmet fans. If you do it right, you can have one fan or two bringing in outside air and another blowing air inside the helmet out around your neck. This brings in cooler air and gets rid of the hot air, creating great circulation.

Throw on top of all that a microphone with speakers inside the helmet and a headset connected to a radio to speak to other troopers.

My trooper armor has taken me literally years to get it JUST how I wanted it. I just got a new set or armor to perfect it plus my new armor is more accurate. Time and patience is key but trooper armor, despite popular opinion, can be VERY comfortable. I have worn mine for 20 hours at Celebrations without any problems :)
