Quest for the Ultimate Ranger Sword (LOTR)

I really like what you've done, it looks fantastic! Lucky indeed!

Thanks! But the credit goes to the real craftsmen: Christian Fletcher, who made the hilt, Albion Armorers who fabricated the blade, and Peter Johnsson, who designed the blade and did the hands on research that resulted in the original, historically accurate sword model, before it got dolled up to look all middle-earthy.

Drool! What a fine texture in the handle, lookks amazing! And I like a lot that deep red color
Thank you! The texture is the result of the leather surface being tightly wound with cord as it dries, and small risers placed below the leather at the ends of each grip section. You can get a look at the ins and outs of the process here:

I, too, love the deep red. It's my favorite color for swords.

Extremely well worded there, from Peter Johnsson. And the sword! That thing is full tilt boogie. Freaking outstanding man. I am fully on board with the whole wall hangers not being anything like enough, but if there were ever anything...a semblance of a ghost of a part of me that was considering allowing myself to get a purely decorative sword or even knife, this thread has now ensconced itself in my brain and will kill any such non-sense.

Hahaha, thanks, man, I appreciate it. It's a concept that's near and dear to my heart, that's for sure. :)

Really, really gorgeous. I am getting slightly frustrated as a prop maker because it is all show and no go, but when I see something like this, it makes me want to go back to functional. No, not the laser weapons silly, but the real blade pieces are a beauty to behold. Congratulations on owning a very nice weapon.

Thank you kindly, this one's very near and dear to me. It's probably my nicest sword.
I've been collecting swords for around 13 years. In that time I've sold or traded away most of the smaller pieces that accumulated over the years and eventually replaced them with a handful of higher-quality pieces. There's a couple budget swords I liked enough to keep around, but generally I favor high-performance late-medieval and renaissance weaponry, which is why you'll see 13-16th century styles and design cues overrepresented in the my collection. :) My swords are all fully functional pieces, no wall hangers.

I like your standards!! Not a mediocre one in the bunch. Have you thought of forging or at least grinding and polishing yourself? That's how all the artisans I have talked to started. Ha! Now you're going to have to have a MASSIVE fireplace to hang them all over. I'd ask What Next? but that is half the fun. Nice collection. ww

I was just browsing thru the forums and saw someone mentioned my name!! Lol

All of this brings back memories!

Thank you! I've often thought about forging my own, but have never had access to enough and proper equipment or shop space. I've had to settle for designing swords and having other craftsmen make them, like this piece that Christian Fletcher made off of my design:

The problem, of course, is that my tastes have far outpaced my wallet, and I can't afford the custom-made nature of my own drawings and plans. :lol

Oh, wow, great to hear from you! That drink offer still stands, of course, I LOVE the projects you've headed over the years. Did you ever complete your triple-fullered longsword version of Orcrist with Peter Lyon?

It's still in the works. This is it in it's current state

Thought you might like to see a few Odinblades too

Stunning, mate. Absolutely stunning. On both counts. I've always loved John's work, he hits a great balance between fantasy and history that very few others match.

Speaking of different takes on Orcrist, here's a version I sketched up. Wish I had the means to commission it.
