Interest Quantum Leap Calculator Handlink by Replica Props, Cosplay Lights and Sound, SP Productions, and Halocat

Is this still happening?
Also doing some review and iteration of the graphics and comparing them to the original prop. Yes, I know that photo is blurry...

Are you planning on making your own replica too?
He owns the screen used prop and gave me exclusive access so I could make the most accurate replica. We have already compared the parts i've already produced to the screen used prop to make sure everything is exact. Cosplay Light and Sound "Morgan" is building the electronics. He has been finalizing the design and I think is currently working on the method of text entry to be used.

Gotcha.
I was just wondering, as it has been a long time since Morgan's last electronics update.

With regards to Morgan's electronics it looks like he's using a standard green PCB with SMT LEDs on the opposite side of the PCB behind the light bars to allow the flashing LEDs to be seen from the back.
Whereas on the original it looks like the colour from the LEDs was visible from the underside of those LED light bars as the LEDs seemed to be somehow suspended in the middle acrylic layer.
Thanks

Correct. The original was a mess inside, ive seen it. It was hobbled together

A tremendous thanks to SP Productions for these tantalizing photographs of the original screen-used prop in a state of disassembly.

The original prop had all hand-wired electronics glued together and sandwiched into the enclosure. The block LEDs were indeed transparent on both the top AND bottom so the light was visible from the front and back of the Handlink.

Unfortunately, those transparent LEDs are very hard to find. Further, as I went down the road of trying to make a PCB where the LEDs would be visible through large rectangular holes in the PCB, it would have greatly increased the assembly cost and required compromises elsewhere in the design.

After much reflection, I elected for visually identical block LEDs and then adding SMD LEDs to the back side of the PCB. We tested this and from a distance of just a few feet away through the smoke acrylic and with the gold silkscreened artwork on the back, it looks very similar to the original prop.

The planned PCB will be black with a matte finish, so we believe the PCB will disappear entirely into the prop. Thanks for your interest!

Oh and remember when I was trying to get the warbling sound from Play Ball and Maybe Baby? I hired 2 different people on Fiverr and dropped over $100 and neither of them could get the job done. Then I did some research and opened the Play Ball sound in Adobe Audition. used noise sampling and the paintbrush to erase errant sounds and I got that sucker! So the warbling sound WILL appear in the Calculator! Small victories. :)

Hear it here:
