Re: quakevirus's Iron Man Mark V WIP with pics

ok started on the plating today for the feet. ran outta pop rivets so ill have to get some more later today. (side note) thinner lined shoes would work better than DCs because the rivets grip range)

Re: quakevirus's Iron Man Mark V WIP with pics

you should wear the ironman DC's by them self! thats really cool. What are snake guards btw...
oh, if you need thinner shoes, you could always get some $4 walmart ked slip ons but I think they are trendy now so they might cost more than that lol. Hows the helmet coming along?

i should make my own line of ironman shoes! snake guards are used to prevent snakes from biting you in the legs when your working in areas where snakes are rampant( saved my ace once) the helmet looks ok, but i will be doing another one here soon.

Really nice build thread, that is an amazing amount of rivets. Look forward to the finished armor and helmet:cool

nice job on the shoe.

thanks! working on them right now.

one thing i've learned is, aluminum rivets good. steel rivets bad(aluminum rivets are easier to work with. and on finishing this thing, you and i both
!:lol

ok working on the boots some more today. i'm going to post some pics of my process at this point and a some tips for easier construction.

ok here we go. first what i do is bust out my trusty yellow crayon and drew the outline of what ever peice i was cutting. in this case heel section of the boot.

4666387831_0bccc3685e.jpg

then i would just score the outline of my piece. not trying to cut all the way through just a clean strait score line.

4667011894_c28a20a9e8.jpg

after that i would just, bend the plastic along the line so that it snaps. and there ya go a clean line(mine might be a lil crooked but you get the point:lol) now all you have todo is run you blade through a thin layer of plastic. this should cut back on blade related injuries and give you better looking lines (no pun intended)

after cutting everything out i have this

4667013018_7de46349fd.jpg

then drilled holes in the pieces then pop riveted (aluminum good, steel bad) them into the snake guards

after that i slapped on a coat of paint to see what it would look like, ill be adding several more plates to the shoe area later today to fill some gaps and whatnot.

color is way off in this pic( i blame the camera on my phone)

well there ya go that was my morning. well an hour of it.

Re: quakevirus's Iron Man Mark V WIP with pics

In what way are aluminum ones better?

they are easier to use with the poprivet gun. with the steel ones its pretty hard to squeeze the handles on the gun(like i have to use two hands to get it to a point where i can pop it. with the aluminum ones, it only reguires one hand soo much easier.

Re: quakevirus's Iron Man Mark V WIP with pics

Just wanted to say great job on the suit man.

I have a part suggestion or more a less an upgrade to the velcro to make it easier for ya. At my work we use the 3M velco as well, the industrial strength. Look basically the same as what your using but our is self adhesive and let me tell you the adhesive stay on strong.

The part number is SJ3541 and SJ3542. Its good stuff. Just a suggestion. Keep up the great work.

almost forgot.. today i decided to attach the ab straps in the back.. i used 3M dual lock velcro. i glued it to the elastic with E-6000(i call it mega glue) seems like its gonna hold up. most likely going to use the same dual lock velcro on the back plates.

Quake.. if you were able to take those pictures today there is no reason you can't suit up and do some myspace mirror pics.. just so we can see the whole suit together thus far LOL.

thanks man. i need to upgrade the velcro to the back of the torso. i was thinking some sorta button snaps i can rivet in and hide easily. thanks for the info! will use in my next suit of armor.(did i say "next" :confused:love)

in the pic of the ab straps the velcro that used had an adhesive that was pretty strong. since it was going on the elastic straps and there was going to be alot of stress with it stretching, i thought that it would need a lil extra ummph. so i used the e6000.

:lolmyspace mirror pics! i plan on finishing the legs in about 3 days and upgrading some fastners on the torso and cod peice(velcro is acting a lil scetchy) then ill take some pics. no worries Dark pics will come.

Re: quakevirus's Iron Man Mark V WIP with pics

Fair enough. Can you at least snap a quick pic of the armor thus far layed out on the ground in it's appropriate places?

here ya go. this is it thus far. i removed the arc reactor because im gonna upgrade mirror that reflects the leds. as for the helmet:unsure we will just call it "battle damaged" :lol im going to pep another one once the legs are finished. for a first pep this hemlet isnt too bad. the suit looks more filled out when worn. the curved peices on the side plates use the pressure from the ab plates straps to curve the side plates( i hope that makes sense:confused) .

anyways here ya go.

Re: quakevirus's Iron Man Mark V WIP with pics

That looks killer dude. Would love to see some close ups of the helmet. I am currently working on Sharks newest HD helmet... what a pain with all the details.. but they will pay off in the end I hope.
