i see pitch forks and the glow of home made torches from the mob in the distance...:lol one more thigh peice then pics.. actually cutting it out right now.

on the subject of another suit...definitely! (after a short break of course) im thinking some sexy dark elf armor for my trophy fiance:love:love.. im not sure if im gonna take the pop rivet approach to it though. idk i have alotta ideas for my next major armor build.

Re: quakevirus's Iron Man Mark V WIP with pics

Very Very Nice Work......

To make all that out of a few rivits velcro and trash cans. Very impressive.

Those rivits on the inside look rough though. Gotta find a way to block those. I think that foam tape will rub off then you will be walking through Comicon getting all scrathed up.

Re: quakevirus's Iron Man Mark V WIP with pics

forget the iron man pics. lets see some pics of this "trophy fiance" LOL just kidding dude. No offense.

thanks! :) yeah the rivets are rough in some spots ie. the boots(shin area) and in the spine area primarily. i was thinking that i might not last that long aswell. maybe some glue some canvas strips over them with E6000?

lol no offense taken! she's a beaut, she is. (she is a model) . i think her lineage 2 dark elf armor is my next project.

Hey quake, I'm also building a Mk V suit using Fett's method. Do you have any more tips for making sure my cuts in the plastic are straight? I tried doing the score-and-break method you mentioned earlier, but my cuts still come out a little crooked.

good question. on some of mine i had this problem. what i would do is after i had the whole piece i was working with off of the can, i would hold the piece i was working with in my left hand(im right handed) and with the blade in my right hand. i would slide the blade along the edge a couple times to smooth out any bumps or dips in the edge. i used a carpet knife to cut all my pieces, with the carpet knife where the blade meets the handle there is a edge you can rest the plastic on so the buisness end of the blade isnt so close to your hand thats holding the peice your cutting. i chose to cut towards myself. i do not recommend to anyone to do it. you slip and you might stab yourself in the chest. no joke. NOT the safest way to do it. what i can suggest is after the piece is off of the can, maybe laying a steel ruler where your edge is and using the ruler as your guide, do about 4-5 passes with the blade till its cleaned up.

Re: quakevirus's Iron Man Mark V WIP with pics

Look into Rivet caps. They make nice smooth dome like caps to go over the rough edges of rivets. Some of them look rather nice too.

Re: quakevirus's Iron Man Mark V WIP with pics

ok so i finished all the main componants of my mark V suit. when my girl took the pictures i didnt notice that the elbow plates were down and totally exposing my knobby elbows. later this after noon when its cooler out side (its literally like 95 with about 75% humidity) ill get some better pics with some better clothes on underneath it. all that is lacking is gloves and a good helmet. mine sucks i know, i rushed it and it shows(that rhyme was unintentional), lesson learned, will be pepping a new one. i still need to order a silver zentai suit to go underneath it, i plan on this at the beginning of next month. it will have red boots glove, hood possibly more red depending on how customizable these things really are. Stealth said previosly that they are pretty customisable and i believe should fill in any gaps in between plating as well. i theory...

all in all, i had a blast making this suit and for my first armor build, id say i didnt do to bad for $40 worth of trashcans, roughly $40 worth of pop rivets a few misc peices i found lying around my house and a month and a half build time. i think my accuracy is a bit better than some simular suits made the same way.

the cargo shorts im wearing dont help with my my presentation. i should have an undersuit here in the next couple months (takes a month manufacture and ship from china).

so with out further ado..

notice the massive crack in the back of the helmet? at that point i knew i was going to make a new one.

Looks great Quake! Loving the ridiculous poses lol. Those boots turned out killer!

thanks! yeah i was having a bit of fun with it. later i should get some better pictures up. cool thing with the boots is they have a lot of movement in the toe and ankle. i riveted the side and top plates to the lace holes and toung in the shoe and the toe was riveted to well.. the toe area. im kinda proud of it if you cant tell :)

ZOMG! I love it! It looks amazing! One slight problem I see and its really minor and I kinda hate being a stickler about it but the silver chest pieces that runs out to the arms looks a bit too big. Sorry for being a stickler but I'm a perfectionist (or as close to perfection as one can be). This is really an accurate build though. Trim that chest piece and I think it'll look great. I really hope no one takes this out of proportion, but quakevirus, you outdid Master Le in this. You sir win, just win.

i see that as well. i think im gonna end up adding small plates here and there to fill in the gaps a bit more also address the chest peice. i still have a little bit of fine tuning to do to it. aaand thank you for the amazing compliment! :D

Re: quakevirus's Iron Man Mark V with pics 07/10/10 (WIP portion is done)

or maybe even some tucking, try cutting the excess off and then taking those scraps and attach them to your biceps slightly under to where its snug up in your arm pics. Just an idea.
