Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

Good God, who on Earth would want one of those things hanging up anywhere. Truly awful.

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

Forbidden Planet already did a great job of that. We're never going to get an actual painting, but I understand Magnoli offers real oil painting replicas now, maybe ask him about pricing. Won't be cheap, but it'll definitely look real.

on the upside, this could mean that at some point in the future QMX could replicate the painting of the Tardis exploding....ive wanted one of those since i saw that ep...

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

They could have released a pack of post cards with the logo on them, or a set of label stickers that weren't actually in the show, they just look like they belong on a ship/station in one of the episodes. But actually yea, this poster is terrible. I know they'll sell SOME, but I can't imagine that number will be high. Of all the silly, worthless products I've ever seen a license holder release, this one takes the cake. If QMx has a representative on this forum/reads these threads, please take this criticism under advisement: Try harder or give up.

You do realize that Doctor Who has a farily strong following in the gay community and among women, right? :cool I'm sure there's a few out there with tastes running in that direction that will be overjoyed about it. I'm not but that doesn't rule out others.

I know that, but they would have to have an epic amount of bad taste to buy it. Look at it, it's poorly executed and just.. well, bad :confused

I dunno, wazoo - this does come under the category of "Home Furnishings," after all; as campy as it might seem, it's ghastly decor. It's the sort of thing John Waters would frame. Gay or female, you'd still have to throw your taste out of a high window to feature a great honking naked Matt Smith cartoon on your walls.

EDIT: By the way, anybody know John Waters address? I'd buy him one of these in a New York minute.

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

We should force our good taste upon them :p

j/p. But seriously, this has to be a sick joke on QMx's part...

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

If I recall someone here had accused QMX as being just a front for its founder to get all the toys he wants (or was that EFX?). If that is the case then...er...ew? ;)

(In the words of Foghorn Leghorn: "THAT'S A JOKE, SON!!!")

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

From reading these post it appears no one even bothered watching the current episode that this prop is featured in? It's a funny, part of a light hearted joke sequence in the start of the episode, sheesh... My girlfriend and I both got a giggle out of it...

Look at it, it's poorly executed and just.. well, bad :confused

How can you say 'poorly' executed? It replica prop that looks pretty damn close to what was seen on screen short of being undersized...

Really it's not something I'm interested in but it's still sure to appeal to some that can laugh at it instead of go phobic...

Re: QMx Sonic Screwdriver Thread

OOh! OOh! I just realized - with a solid backing and an appropriately drilled hole, this would be the perfect display for my 11th Sonic!!

...If only I had the background to put the light and buzz feature on a continuous circuit...

(EDIT: PS, exoray - saw the episode, got the connection, still 14 bucks worth of nothing and a macabre article for home decor.)

(EDIT-EDIT: Vigo does not approve. Perhaps having them on facing walls would be fun. Especially with that continuous circuit.)

Macabre? Really?

Trident = A symbol of the controller of worlds, one that destroys evil and restores order...

Cherubs = Spiritual beings generally associated with the presence of a diety...

Crown = Power, legitimacy, immortality, righteousness, victory, triumph, resurrection, honour and glory of life after death...

ALL very symbolic traits of The Doctor and his character in the new series... The lack of 'clothing' is also consistent and symbolic of mythological art that depicts dieties...

As I said before look past the phobia of what it is not, and look at what it is... I'll swear have any of you been to a fine art museum?

Nah. I don't think so. :thumbsdown

What do you think if not for the traditional well established, well documented historical representations that I listed?

It was tongue and cheek, funny played on what I listed...

You really took time to think that deeply about a piece of visual fluff? Man, you need to get out more...:lol

I got the impression that he was saying that the original prop painting was poorly executed, which I would tend to agree with. So what QMX have reproduced / scanned is a not terribly flattering portrait of Matt Smith as the Doctor, but at least it's screen accurate.

Not my cup of tea really. I wonder what the delay on their Sonic is.

No, I happen to enjoy (and have done my fair study of) Greek Mythology and recognized it immediately...

Plug in "Aphrodite and Adonis" into Google images and just try and tell me that you can't seen the blatantly obvious analogies... I saw them instantly as it's something I'm familiar with... Look at some other Greek Mythological paintings like say for example a Google image search for "Zeus paintings"
