QMX JJ Abrams Trek 11 Phaser

I wouldn't mind taking a stab at doing a run, if there was enough interest. I had made a 3D model when the movie came out, and I think there are members here who may have had a hand in the real one. This model needs some tweaks to be more screen accurate, but I have better reference now. The main thing will be the cost. Unless someone here wants to do the machining, I would be happy to supply the database that I created.

The Toy is not so screen accurate....but for 10 bucks you can't complain. (You can at least take the electronics!)

Here is the render....

I'm interested in the QMX because it is taken from an origional stunt unit. QMX does seem to only come through on items that can be made at home for pennies on the dollar - like paper ID tags, pins, buttons and badges :cry

BTW- Brucelee42 - Beautiful render. I always wanted to learn how to make computer renders but I cant seem to play with the programs properly to learn to use them intuitively. All those tools that you dont know how to use or where to start. *** What program are you using?

QMX states that the Phasers are done and are on the boat from China, I am still waiting for images of their version.

Thanks!
It depends on what I plan to do with the data. There are two main types of surfacing - Nurbs and polygonal. (there are variations as well - but we should start a thread in the general modeling area) In this case the model was made using Rhino3D. Its probably the easiest to use, way cheaper than most other Nurbs modelers out there. The data is water tight, machines well and works great for rapid proto.

As for the rendering side of things, I use modo. Again, easy to use, spectacular results and inexpensive. I also use modo for doing concepts and animations as well. I highly recomend.

Here is a picture of their prototype that I took at DC last year. Not a very good picture but I was able to handle it. It's bigger than you'd think, heavy and cold, due to its metalized surface. A very nice piece.

Never really was sold with JJ Trek, but I enjoyed the movie, and I definitely loved those phasers...however i wish I could afford them :(

Its funny, and other have shared this same sentiment with me. I am really hopeful that QMX comes through on this piece. I would be disappointed if these didnt come through, but I think I want the piece because its $50 more than I just want the piece. Do you understand? Not saying that $50 isnt a good chunk of change. I also think its well worth $50 for what you get. But ultimately, I want it for $50 more than I just want the replica.

Strange coming across this thread since I just pre-ordered my QMX JJ Phaser. The email announcement for the pre-order came out a few minutes ago. I pre-ordered mine an then came here to see who else did. I doubt I'm the first guy to get an order in already.

I got mine, too (y)thumbsup

I think it looks pretty nice. I'm looking forward to getting it ... and you sure can't beat that price!

Well, we don't have them yet. They're expected to ship on the 15th but that doesn't mean diddly until they HAVE SHIPPED. Keep your digits crossed.

I got mine preordered! Hard to beat that price, even if it's non working, I am sure one you guys with get right on it.

I have to agree that it is good they put the red tip forward. I wonder how much more it would have cost to install a pin to allow us to rotate the barrel by hand? Probably double the price since that would take it from a solid piece to an assembled piece.
