Hey all,
I was tempted to put this in the screen used section but frankly, this is more about the build than the collection so I think this is a good fit.
If you've been following our page on Facebook or our Twitter account, you've already had a sneak peek at this project. Since last August we've been designing a pair of theme rooms for collector Wesley Cannon (www.Wickedprops.com). We've imagined these from empty rooms into what you see here. The build included the creation of dozens of themed elements and enhancements. We recently put in some time at Wesley's North Carolina home to install his dream rooms.
The concept was simple - create a literal “Man Cave” for Wesley to use as a movie prop display room and home theater.
I did the bulk of the design work with some added early input from Robb DeNicola and constant input from Richard Riley, who often took my concepts and sketches and expanded on them when creating the individual pieces, adding his unique vision to the final product. The major fabrication was done off-site over period of months, and it took a 26 foot long moving truck to transport all of the faux rocks, girders and other elements to North Carolina for the install.
Wesley came to us with a basic theme... a “cave”, which we expanded on with the backstory of rooms constructed inside a cave by a great adventurer many years ago, leading us to create two distinct spaces:
- a gritty and imposing Movie Prop Display Room with gray rock formations, stalactites hanging from the dark ceiling, girders and*rusted metal walls loaded with rivets.
- and a warm and inviting Home Cinema / Media Room that is a more finished looking space, with beautiful brown rock formations and enough repeating elements from the Movie Prop Display Room to carry over the feel and theme.
You'll find galleries with dozens of photos (including progress and behind-the-scenes pics) in the detailed project diary at the following link:
Man Cave Custom Themed Horror Home Theater and Movie Prop Rooms
Folks who know our work will recognize many of the Custom Mannequins we've done for Wesley over the years. In a way, the install was like visiting old friends!
And of course, spending time with Wesley and his family was the highlight of the install. I'd like to take a moment to thank Wesley once again for coming to us with this project. We can't wait to create for you again!
Best, Tom
