Protoman! (making the armor real)

Re: Protoman! and child's Megaman build (Starting with a vintage HGU-26/P flight helm

Wow, I am loving the look of that helmet! I always had a soft spot for Protoman. And your son is just too cute for words :p

I can't wait to see this one complete.

Thanks! I was really hoping to have this done for tomorrow night, but family obligations and setbacks have pushed it back a few days. I should be good by next week for NanDesuKan.

Really cool, and those boots are spot on!

Holy smokes, those are awesome. Can't wait to see this finished. I just started on my own Protoman helmet last week.

Thanks! I'm very happy with how they turned out. I'm planning on fininshing skinning them tonight.

I'd love to see it!

So! More updates! YAY!
I've partially assembled the helmet and done the edge lining. The visor and crest is in place, just need to finish the ear cups and attach them.

And finally the iconic yellow scarf. Anyone have good reccomendations for how to weather the ends a bit?

Looking badass so far man.
I've seen a few proto costumes around, but this is by far the best, even now!

Re: Protoman! and child's Megaman build (Starting with a vintage HGU-26/P flight helm

Thanks guys! This will probably be my last update before my convention this weekend. I still have a crap ton to finish, and I'm expected at the hotel tomorrow afternoon. T_T

I got some more work done on the helmet last night, and I learned I need to pad the forehead quite a bit more to keep it from falling in my face. Ear cups got some weathering done, and I finished skinning one of the boots.

Show us the update!!!!!! :D

Re: Protoman! and child's Megaman build (Starting with a vintage HGU-26/P flight helm

OKAY, OKAY!!!

Interesting lesson learned, don't make custom fit armor pieces for a 2 year old. My son outgrew the bracer and boots in 2 WEEKS :facepalm

He still shoved his hand in the gun arm and went, "PEW PEW PEW!" to every camera that pointed his direction. :lol

As for Protoman, I didn't get all the details I wanted done. I settled on the shirt and pants and just wore a black long sleeve T and my Gi pants. I'll fix that later.

The helmet turned out absolutely badass, and I got tons of complements on it all weekend. I usually walked around with the visor up, and it had people flipping out when I'd slide it down.

Down the road, I'll glass the gun, boots, and bracer so that I can give them the same hardened, battle damaged look that the helmet has. Also I'll buy or make a charcoal grey military style jacket and matching pants that are more fitted and go with the look I want.

Yea, that came out awesome.

Re: Protoman! and child's Megaman build (Starting with a vintage HGU-26/P flight helm

Nice work! It all came together very nice!
The helmet looks amazing!
Looks like you two had a lot of fun!
I was expecting a belt, and for the front of the feet to cover your knees.

I'm thinking of extending the boots over the knee, but I have to adjust them a bit more anyways. Also, a belt will happen when I make the correct top and pants.

Re: Protoman! and child's Megaman build (Starting with a vintage HGU-26/P flight helm

I picked up a pattern to use as the base for Protoman. I really want a different feel for the character, so I felt that a classic military style jacket and pant will work better than just the traditional spandex (which wouldn't work on my physique anyway) :lol

I'll be using the upper portion of the blue jacket in the pic with the shorter lower on the grey, possibly even shorter than that.

Any suggestions on type of fabric to use that will breathe decently but still look futuristic? The helmet and scarf are warm enough as is, I don't want to die in this thing. :confused

Also, I picked up some LEDs and wiring bits to light the ears on the helmet, and light up the gun as well. Just gotta figure out how to attach the momentary buttons inside the Protocannon. (sorry, no pics of that)

Re: Protoman! (Starting on a real uniform)

This came out really nice! I like the boots specially, they look to be exactly the right shape.

Yeah, I'm really happy with them. Just a little more work and I think they'll be PERFECT.

I'm having trouble finding a fabric that I like for the suit in a price that I can afford. Why is awesome fabric so expensive? :cry

In other news, I've been playing around with LEDs in the gun portion! The outer barrels will have red LEDs and the center will be yellow.
