Propstore "screen matched" TOS Tricorder

Have you looked at material for redoing car seats for GM or for cars from the 60's?

I know some companies have like 10 to 12 different patterns, the only downside with that route might be cost.

I ordered some of the adhesive-backed leatherette in the post above. If it comes in too thick, etc. I’ll be looking into these other alternatives

I'll check some of the samples I got when I redid the interior on my friend 63' Chevy II ... We went to a lot of places to find the correct material for that car.

Amazon is fast…

Well, here’s a quick experiment of the material on the side panel of a Midgrade Tricorder.

I really didn’t take my time and slapped this on in under 2 - 3 minutes.

The material is easy to work with and stretches nicely.

I think I may go forward with a build with this material. (y)

Here's a quick and really dirty effort I made last year with no attempt at accuracy. It's a Marco that the finish was so hideous I just wanted to try something to cover it up. Excuse my hamhanded attempts at upholstery. It was the thinnest stuff I could find on Amazon, no attempt to match anything.

Wow!! I have not really been paying attention, it seems a strange day to have a huge items auction end.

That seems reasonable.
The Tricorder just went for $75k (plus buyer’s premium).
<snip>
And that was the low end estimate, less than the Jein models that sold last fall at Heritage. (Those went for $112K and $175K.)

It will be interesting to see more detailed photos of the prop show up to compare some of the period components. Attached are excerpts from the posted auction site photos.

Propstore led their four day auctions with all the high priced items. Incredible prices for other items such as the Indiana Jones hat and Batwing. I was surprised that the E-11 ROTJ blaster didn’t go much higher than the low estimate.

Similarly I was surprised the Tricorder didn’t go higher than the low estimate: the Wah Chang drawing that followed did well, as did many of the Okuda lots.

For Prop Store Day 1 is always the higher dollar lots.

I do wonder if bidders went a little too crazy during the Greg Jein auction. I’m starting to feel that auction is an outlier in regards to value.
WRT Day 1, absolutely, it’s a recurring theme in the multiple day auctions at PropStore and PIH/now Heritage (which I’ve seen Heritage do in its coin and comic other collectibles).

As for the items in the Greg Jein auctions, the premiums paid for lots there are also a reflection an incredible provenance. Having a piece from those catalogues is akin to having a prop or costume from the iconic Christie’s 2006 Star Trek, Azarian, or Debbie Reynolds prop and costume collection sales reap.

This pretty much settles it, for me, as to whether the middle compartment “guts” are original to the prop.

The leatherette of the body of the Tricorder and the leatherette backing the Moire do not appear to match.

The Tricorder body leatherette has a very fine, almost haircell-like texture / grain, throughout…

…whereas the leatherette backing the moire appears to be flat, with no grain and a heavy wrinkled texture:

I DO believe that the steel lower compartment door frame (note the rust and the fact that it’s soldered together—which you can’t do with aluminum) is original to the prop and that the leatherette applied to the steel door frame is also original as it matches the leatherette on the body of the prop.

Some of the fiberglass midgrades did have lower door frames, as well (though more primitive in construction):
