I am in agreement that the overall “Leatherette Tricorder” looks screen-used. Great detective work by Propstore, as usual.

The “guts” in the middle and lower compartments…including the disc round, hypno disc / moire, in the upper compartment….and the dividers in the lower compartment…are not typically found in a Tricorder other than the 2 original Wah Chang heroes.

Wasn’t another “Leatherette Tricorder” auctioned off, over a decade ago, but had no internal “guts” in the middle and lower compartments?

My memory is murky.

Here are the pics of that particular Tricorder:

The previously auctioned Tricorder may be the “other” leatherette as I believe there were two made for Season 3. The leather grain pattern is also different compared to the Propstore Tricorder.

Personally, for me, the most awesome thing this reveals is this appears to validate my theory that, in later seasons, they used screws in the middle compartment as “doorstops” to keep the door from being pushed in too far...

I had incorporated this detail in my recent “Geo Tricorder” build, earlier this year:

They contacted me about this and I sent what I felt was perhaps a screen-match reference which they had also found. But that interior is just…scary. But with that said, in season 3 the 2 Leatherettes became the de facto heroes with the old heroes relegated to background or “specialty” use (ie geo tric). Throughout season 3 Spock and McCoy use Leatherettes. I have no shots of the 2006 PIH Tric with open doors so that blows.

Overall yes, but when we look at the shapes on the compartment doors and the obvious replacement interior for the upper compartment ehhhhhhhhhhhhh......

I am a bit too skeptical

It appears there are grain patterns that match up to the Day of the Dove tricorder. Real, or a super-duper forgery?

The Tricorder body is “real” to my eye. Propstore has employed their usual high standards and due diligence to screen-match the piece.

We never saw the “guts” in the middle and bottom compartments on-screen, so I can’t render any opinion regarding whether those specific parts are original to the piece, or added by an owner in later years.

I'm not convinced the faceplates don't match. They look...convincingly close to me.

There are some other shapes and contours in the side plates that are fairly unique to the original props that also seem to match really well.
