This was made especially for the Xena TV series filmed in New Zealand. Made for the character "Ares" and is hand crafted out of metal by a specialist prop maker on the series. Its an original "heroe" sword used for close up shots. The only duplicates that was made were of rubber & plastic for action/stunt sequences. This was obtained from the production company after the series was finished back in 2002.

Anyone know what the value of this would be?

I've had very bad luck selling anything from Xena, but there are fans out there that will pay decent money for a nice piece such as this one.

My estimate on the piece is between $300 and $500 in today's market. I don't think it'll be easy to sell, however.

In an ideal world, this should be worth between $750 and $1000, but it's unlikely you'll get that sum in the near-term.

That's a great piece, but unless Xena has a resurgence, it's not likely to go up much, unfortunately. It undoubtedly cost the production much more then you could get for it now. I would enjoy it and wait for the right collector to come along or see if there is a big prop auction you can get it into. For all the real work (forging, tempering, etc.) that goes into making swords like that, I am always astonished at how poorly they seem to hold their value.
You'd probably make more if you cast it up and did some replicas.

I would say that the Ares blade would fetch a nice price, as indeed the actor has passed and his character was very popular. If you have interest in selling, I would go through a good broker and find as many screen caps of this sword that you can. A metal hero is a plumb among Xena props as so many available were resin or rubber. Swords are also the minority in the avalanche of Xena/Hercules props that hit the market, so I would discount the price just yet.
