Even though the new Ridley Scott movie has not yet hit the screen, how many of you out there are already thinking about making / building the Promtheus ?

It looks like a cool ship with many details. Maybe it could be a group design with an end product down the line.

Just throwing out some thoughts at the moment.

Very detailed. Gonna be tricky as it's a CG model. The Land based vehicles look good though. Would make for a nice kit.

Saw the trailer and the the ground vehicles made me think "Alien." I'd be interested in a couple of models of the wheeled vehicles.

I'm hoping to see some kits come from this movie!

I'm sure i heard somwhere that the Prometheus was a real model, although it does look a bit CGIY, getting harder to tell these days.

It sure looked CGI to me in the trailer. Got to say I LOVE the design of it. Sleeker and sexier than the Nostromo... yet retaining a similar design profile. Someone will make a kit... eventually...

    Alan,

I thought the same thing about some resemblence to the Nostromo. In particular the downward angle of the engines when the ship lands.

Can't wait for the movie then the DVD release. This looks like it will make a great model. I have on the backburner a dropship and APC to build and make into a dio - after I finish my Venator.

Hope the movie delivers. The trailer looks interesting to say the least.

Would definitely like to see this happen, too. Beautiful ship.

I hate to be "that guy", but yeah, it makes me think of Serenity a little bit. You all know what I'm talking about...

Make sure you check out the other Prometheus thread here if you want to talk spoilers etc. There's a lot to talk about.

They definitely are kind of similar

IIRC the Prometheus was based at least in part on concept sketches originally used for the Nostromo. The original idea for the Nostromo was to have that front viewing window, but I believe it was scrapped due to technology and costs at the time. It probably resurfaced for the Prometheus due to the advances in CGI making it possible without looking bad

First time I saw it, I totally thought it looked a bit like Serenity on steroids. But I agree with everyone else, there's a definite resemblance to Nostromo. Really looking forward to this movie!

I hate to be "that other guy", but I don't love it. I want to, I just...don't.

It's better than the Serenbetty, though. :lol

LOL! Yep. Eh, they're both okay, but they're kind of the same ship. I'm sure Whedon would admit that. :lol

Hot Toys has the license so I'm sure figures will be made. Hopefully some statues. A 1:1 light up helmet. A navigator full size skull, or 1:1 bust. Lots of props of many sizes. I am hopeful that this will be an epic movie.

Had another look at the trailer and it seems that the wheeled APC's are based upon either the LAV or Stryker.

Judging by the size of the vehicles as they come down the ramp, it looks like the Prometheus is about the size of the Nostromo - give or take about 15%.

Any thoughts on who "that guy" will be yet ?

    Cheers,

    Dave

Dave, personally I get the impression it's quite a bit smaller than Nostromo, maybe 20% or so smaller? And I'm not "that guy", but I'm definitely "that other guy". :lol

    Nwerke,

I see what you mean mate. Having a decent head on view does change the feeling of its size.

We'll just have to wait and see when the movie comes out.

    Dave.

Yeah, it's far from tiny but most of the imagery suggests it's somewhere between 50% and 80% of Nostromo scale, to me. Highly subjective, ymmv, etc etc.

I'm not completely sold on this design yet, the action might make or break it for me. That said, big starships thundering into the sky is pretty much an automatic win...that looks like a *great* shot!

Yes, some cautious optimism. Comparing it to the Nostromo is like comparing the Millenium Falcon to some of the PT's shinier ships.
While I like a lot of the design of the PT ships, it's the crude hand-me-down charm of the old the Falcon that has more immediate appeal, and so too Nostromo.

That said, I've more confidence in Scott to have the restraint and chops to give character and 'weight' to Prometheus than most directors.
I also think a lot of what I felt sold Nostromo was the way Scott married the interior scenes to the exterior models - he seems to have a good feel of lighting, space and atmosphere. It never felt like a set, I thought.
    Fingers crossed eh?

It's an interesting design, certainly, though I'm not into the front view much. Looks great from behind though. The Foss DNA is clearly evident too from that angle, reminds me somewhat of this image:

Cool the 1st schematic of the ship, there is an art of Prometheus book that will be released June 5th.

More Prometheus pix, including some possibly apocryphal 'plan views.'

Some of these are enormous in pixel dimensions and file size, so be careful :)

Apologies if there are any repeats.

    XOXO

The Nostromo did have a viewing window. It just looks tiny on the outside.

The Nostromo had two bridge windows, one on each side, as per the California Split Level art but scaled down.

Be a bit wary of these. Something about them looks as if they might be drawn from "photo" stills rather than true orthographic renders.

Oh, "possibly apocryphal", so you did - I'd missed that. Good call.

The engines are all the same way up. We know right there that someone hasn't done their homework: all four are basically the same, but the front and rear pairs are oppositely oriented.

See what you mean about the engines. That would mean two different moulds for essentially the same geometry ?

I really wouldn't like to be "that guy".

I love the fact that they felt the need to point out, of all the advanced equipment inside that thing, that it has a fire proof windscreen! That's either wonderfully twisted sense of car-salesman humor or really, really dumb. :lol

(It's also definitely the genetically mutated lovechild of Nostromo and Serenity....)

There is a Star Wars image like that I think with a pod racer that has a line from the vehicle and says "Paint". Talk about filler.

Oh, those Star Wars visuals are the worst.

Caption pointing to Emperor Palpatine's face: "Smile, indicating smugness and sense of power".

So is my Google-fu weak, or has no one (no company anyway) made a model of the Derelict? All I've found is a scratchbuild or two.

    First film?
Yes there was a garage kit, it was even reworked and released again last year I think.
Had a clear dome so you could see the Space Jockey chamber.

There was a thread on it over on the Club House Forum.

The only ones that appear to be available before is the model kit by Seahorse Models and the one by The Resin Laboratory/Vander 3D Model Makers and one from Scale Solutions from Australia. Some of these were not licensed.

    A L I E N: AVAILABLE NOW- JUMBO DERELICT KITS
Another model kit built much larger in scale.

MÖRBID REPORTS,episode:2,alien 1979/prometheus ,derelict ship model diorama - YouTube
And this cool model was probably done using the above model kit.
