Prometheus (Post-release)

Great article. I am in love with this image:

And I also really dig the idea of a squad of soldiers hidden on the ship. But Aliens is still my favorite in the franchise, though I do love the design of the soldiers in Alien 3 too.

See, that's a face on the Pyramid. Seeing it again in 3D tonight to see if I can tell if my face to skull theory is correct.

I believe it is. The storm plays with the shadows and makes it look like a skull. Part of the array of symbolism present in the film.

Saw it again and enjoyed it even more in 2D. In this environment, appreciated the score much more as well and the small section from the Alien score was perfectly placed for mine. Not much of a wordsmith so will just say congratulations to SRS and those around him for a spectacular cinema experience.

David is unique in the "robot" world in that he not only watches but studies human dreams, for two whole years infact, an aspect to his motivations i havnt seen discussed yet but thats not my question. To my experience with sci fi, humans dont dream in Hypersleep do they? Is Scott redifining our sci fi folklore?

There is real no way to know if he feels them nor can we establish what "feel" means to an android.

You don't need to. The mechanics would clearly be different, but the simple fact that he understands disappointment, implies that humans have disappointed him to Holloway, and speaks to certain characters as if he belittles them with clear sarcasm indicates that he does.

I'm quite positive that there was no face prior to the storm, but there was no close up clear shot before that I recall either, just a quick shot from below as they entered the silo. I'm seeing it again tomorrow as well, so I'll look for it.

One of the pieces of concept art had the same Brazil-baby-face-mask looking head as Giger's original Dune art.

Does anyone think the name of the planet(LV 223) has any significance in relation to Leviticus 22:3? “Say unto them, Whosoever he be of all your seed among your generations that goeth unto the holy things, which the children of Israel hallow unto the LORD, having his uncleanness upon him, that soul shall be cut off from my presence: I [am] the LORD."
:eek :eek

It's a face. You can see it just before they enter in an overhead shot. However it's a skull just as the storm is brewing. I think the storm has meaning.

Maybe it's like the Russian matryoshka dolls. Originally it's a Space Jockey. A storm blows off the outer covering to reveal a human head. Then another storm weathers it down to a skull...

If it was a face that got sanded down to a skull, ok, but that's some mighty coincidental timing. The same day the humans arrive a storm shows up that can do what two thousand years of storms and natural erosion haven't...

Thanks Willie, that Hitler critique was great fun! And Gavin Rothery's blog was perhaps one of the most perceptive summaries I've read and, coming from someone involved in film making, he manages to put his finger exactly on most of the issues that flaw the film for him professionally.
This is has just been put into Wikepedia.
"In June 2012, Lindelof stated that while plot elements were deliberately left unresolved so that they could be answered in a sequel, he and Scott thoroughly discussed what should be resolved so that Prometheus could stand alone, as a sequel was not guaranteed.[198] Further detailing his sequel concept, Scott stated that it would follow Shaw to her next destination, "because if it is paradise, paradise can not be what you think it is. Paradise has a connotation of being extremely sinister and ominous." Lindelof cast doubt on his participation stating "if [Scott] wants me to be involved in something, that would be hard to say no to. At the same time, I do feel like [Prometheus] might benefit from a fresh voice or a fresh take or a fresh thought."[199]"

If there was any a reason needed NOT to hire Lindelof may I present exhibit (A), his own statement. Can't he make his mind up or give a straight answer to anything?

Also I'm getting rather worried about Sir Ridley. The dictionary definition of Paradise is 1.Heaven 2. Eden 3.A region or state of supreme bliss. Putting "NOT" infront or "LOST" behind it is probably what you're trying to say SR, unless you're going all biblical on us again with snakes and apples. If I were at FOX I'd be pressing the panic button on the Bladerunner 2 script and budget roundabout now.

There is also a theory being touted around that Vickers is an android. I would point out that it is highly unlikely, given that David would have had two years to find out by peeking at her med stats and dreams. But perhaps Androids do dream of Electric Sheep? And we are back to Bladerunner.

If i wanted to go down that path, i would suggest more of a "sibling" rivalry atmosphere in more than just context whenever they are together over anything else. As we dont see David watching her dreams it is possible to assume he never bothered to. Theres no reason to push the argument one way or another in THIS movie though teasing is essential.
