procrastination at its finest: deadpool

Well, I bet you're all psyched out that someone is making a Deadpool costume because no one ever does, right? (sense the sarcasm there?) Well, its a long story of why I ended up having to do it and stuff, but my youth group always does different themes for Halloween, and this year its the world of X-Men, X-Force, Weapon X, etc. So, being the jokester of the group, as well as pretty much a white ninja in heart, I was assigned Deadpool. And, a total coincidence, our Homecoming theme this year at school is Marvel, so our class decided on X-Men, X-Force, blah blah blah! I couldn't believe it!

So, I have a habit of procrastination, I started this past week. I quickly realized I should have started WAY sooner, since Homecoming is in about two weeks. I had to go ahead and skip getting a custom suit, which stinks, so I just found a $50 suit for sale. DO NOT WORRY!!! I did not use any stolen designs from Zentai or anything like that. I researched all around on the forum, as well as other places to make sure I wouldn't get in trouble for stealing a design. I ended up just getting a suit and getting a detachable hood on it. I don't expect anything crazy awesome, but I will take what I can get to avoid taking a few weeks to get the suit.

I decided to go with an airsoft 1911 pistol and a black drop leg holster for about $10 total. here is the link:

I really think that this will end up looking pretty good, especially for a cheaper made suit.

Well, I started on making the swords. I was thinking of buying them, but I didn't think the ones I would want would be here for a long while, and I also would like to save on money. I made them out of. PVC pipe that was 1/2 in and 1 in. I plan to make sheaths for them hopefully tomorrow.

I used clamps to flatten the heated pvc pipe

Heat the oven to 250 F and heat the pipe for 5 minutes

Here's a better picture of the clamps

So here's the finished, or almost finished, version of the swords. I added a 7" piece of 3/4 pvc pipe for the handle. I heated it and slid it over the blade. I also painted it black and added electrical tape grips. I plan to add red ribbon on the grips too so that it looks like a traditional Katana sword.

Well, I finished the sheaths for the swords. I'll post pics tomorrow of everything I have so far, but right now I can't. Well, I can, I'm just already in bed, I have school tomorrow p, and I'm too lazy to go take pictures right now. But tomorrow, I shall fight back against my laziness and take the photos!!!

Anyways, I finished with the sheaths. I did the same thing as I did with the swords: heat for 5 minutes, flatten with a clamp, etc. but is used 1" PVC. It is important to use at least a little bit larger so that the sword will fit into it. I also didn't flatten it as much as I did the swords so that I can slide the swords into the sheaths with ease. I also strapped the two sheaths together via electrical tape (tape is my BFF in projects like this) and attached a few straps that I had onto them so that I could wear it on my back. It wobbles a little when I run, but overall not too bad.

I also started on the belt. I decided to go with a black belt with various tan/brown MOLLE pouches attached on it. Here are some of the pouches that I found:

I also decided that I would out a little twist on the belt buckle and make my own. I decided that since the theme of everything is X-Men, X-Force, etc. that I would use a red and black X-Men logo instead of the usual deadpool belt buckle. I simply printed it out on card stock paper, glued it to a thick piece of cardboard, and then sprayed a few coats of clear plastic spray on the whole thing to make it really shine and more durable. Here is the photo I found:

Boots were another big thing that I needed. I can proudly say that I traveled all across town, stopping at Every thrift shop, goodwill, Payless, and sporting goods store, but the only ones that were even black we're about $50, so I had to pass. I then remembered that I had a pair of brown and camouflage boots. So, using the solution to all my color problems, I spray painted them. After the first coat I noticed that the paint didn't really cover the brown very well, so I added about 5 more layers. Then after maybe 2 or 3 coats of clear sealant, it was finished. It actually doesn't look half bad, maybe a little stylish even. I doubt that the paint is good for the fabric, but so far so good. I just can't get too dirty in them otherwise I doubt I'd be able to wash them without paint coming off.

i think that's all I have so far. The suit is on its way, and should be here within a few days. Does anyone have experience in making face shells? I'm debating whether it is worth it to use one or not. Sorry again for no pictures right now. I will post them tomorrow.

Well, here are the photos as promised:

here are the swords on my back

These are the sheaths that I've made. I used some old straps and electrical tape to attach it.

This is the belt. I glued a ring on the back of it so that I can slide it onto the belt

Here are all the pouches that I have attached onto the belt.

And here's the whole thing on me.

So what do you guys think of it so far?

I decided that I would put the ribbons on the grips. They aren't perfect, but they really add some detail to the whole costume, especially the sword.

Well, I got everything in now! I just need to do some last minute touching up.

I actually got the costume at school. My mom is a teacher, so she got it during lunch. I couldn't wait to get home to try it on, but also didn't want to get it dirty while working on the homecoming float, so I compromised by wearing the mask. I'm actually pretty happy with it even without a face shell. It fits my face really well, and it also adds to the realism of being able to take it off and tuck it in my back pouch or something. I plan to do some very basic make up underneath to make it seem like I have scars and such. That leads me to a question I've always had: why do his scars never heal? Everything else regenerates and such extremely fast, so why don't his scars and stuff ever heal? I've looked throughout as many comics as I could, but haven't found the answer.

Heres everything put together and all ready to go. Don't be alarmed: I have two swords! One is behind my head in the picture. I decided to go with only one holster just because it feels easier to move around in with less weight on it.

any opinions, questions, etc.? I love answering and getting into a good conversation!

Well, haven't been on for a while... Thought I'd share some of my pictures and costume-wearing-experience:

Our school had spirit days, so I decided "why not have Deadpool go to school?" So here's a picture in literature class, AKA the nerd-ology class. The teacher is a huge nerd, LotR, Star Wars, Superheroes, comics, and all. He has movie posters, figurines, and all sorts of stuff up around the room. The only one to surpass his nerd-ism is the Senior Bible teacher. He is OBSESSED with Marvel! His classroom walls are literally coated in layers of posters, comic book covers, Captain America shield replicas, figurines, etc.! Just a glimpse into some classes.

Hanging out in Bible class with some friends. I did have to set a few Deathstroke fans straight though, as well straighten out a few of the "oh, it's spiderman!" comments.

Here is our church youth group dressed as a few X-Dudes. Going clockwise and starting from the left: Quicksilver, Deadpool, Wolverine from Universe 177, Cyclops, and then Professor X. Prof. X's bald cap went VERY wrong, so he went with a younger look. Unfortunately, whenever he wasn't sitting up straight people thought that he was Stephen Hawking, so he ended up changing out of his outfit.

I couldn't help but notice a taco stand nearby, and thought, "Why not?"

hope ole you enjoyed the silly pics. :)

To answer your question about the scars and stuff, Wade had terminal cancer, and the experiments Weapon X performed on him accelerated his cancer as well as gave him an accelerated healing factor. So, they kinda cancel each other out. That's the explanation I've heard, anyway. I own just about every comic Deadpool is in, but I just really don't feel like going through all that right now haha
