Good eye Julian. I did tilt it down slightly based on a quick look at some ref's. Heres the original screen grab below. Before i cut the real spendy sat v parts I will make sure there correct. Doesn't it look like there is a slight tilt to the cone to your eye?
Yer this was really a proof of concept test to see how the templates would work. Will be looking closely at the refs before I make a cut and also getting everyones opinions, 4 or 5 eyes are certainly better than one.
Id make it parallel to the heads centre join. I mean, i can look at five ref pics now , draw lines over the join, and then the Saturn V join line, and get different perspectives on all, even some pointing upwards, parallel is your safe bet.
I'll post the completed .AI files here once we all agree on the placement of them. I don't think anyone is game to go it free style like Julian:lol. To nerve racking for me:facepalm
I have to go and try to get the internals milled tomorrow so I can finish the head, then its full steam ahead on the Sat V bits. In the mean time it would be great for the PD guys to double check the level of the various Sat V parts in relation to the head. Im sure to get some wrong and I don't think you guys want wonky bits if your going the template rout:lol
Found an engineering firm near me that would mill the parts i need for a reasonable rate so thats good. I also need to get the equator disk of the lower body cut as well but Im not confident on my size estimate. Anyone help out with the diameter and thickness of the disk?
I did have a quick look yesterday but didnt see any dimensions. Will have a closer look tonight once i reinstall cs6. It just shat itself for no reason:facepalm
Ive been trying to get in touch with mar's but no luck yet. Theres something I'm confused about regarding the lower body cover. Ive got a white piece and a black piece. The only way they fit together is if the thicker black cover sits on top of the thinner white piece but then the support ring doesn't fit the white cover only the black one. seam's to me the black piece should be the cover for the base then the thinner white cover for the plating? Is something mixed up with the parts or am i overlooking something?
I don't remember having any white pieces (in my head anyway - will check when I get home), so I don't know exactly what you're referring to, but Mars is 12 hours off from US time I think?
He's just down the road from me :lol well sort off.
In the first photo heres how mar's probe looks like.
Second photo is my black base cover
Third is the white cover which doesn't fit over the Black cover
Forth is with the thicker black cover over the thinner white one which does fit
Fifth photo shows the support ring only fits the black cover ???????
That's not a problem the white dish doesnt fit the black on. It goes indeed over the black dish but since it'll be cut, it's not a problem if it has a smaller diameter.
Ok so thats how yours was as well Julian? well as long as I know the black one is the cover and the smaller white one is the armour plating then I can continue. Theres no problem with fitting the white armour even if its smaller then?
And the winner is.... :lol
Im contemplating if I should trim the top cover of the body a few mm. I will spend some more time looking at refs before I decided but just wanted to hear other opinions. On a quick look it seems it could do with a few mm trimmed?
